Title: Looking for Amiga Parts
Post by: bburgy on September 14, 2006, 07:18:44 AM
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me find two items that I need to get two Amiga systems running again.

Basically, I need a keyboard for an Amiga 1000, and an internal floppy drive for an Amiga 500.

I've recently acquired the Amiga 1000 without any extras (just the computer itself), and the 500 has been used daily for several years (and the drive seems to have finally given up the ghost). It would be great if someone could point me somewhere.

Also, I would like to get a monitor for the 1000... any hints on where I can find one for a decent price?

Thanks very much!

Hi,
where in the world are you ?
A1000 PAL or NTSC ?
your old A500 drive can be rescued if you don't live too far ;-)

Hi,

Sorry for the late response... been very busy with work lately.

I live in PEI, Canada.

I managed to find an old drive in Australia, on eBay. Though the shipping was a bit much, I should be receiving it soon. It's well worth the cost to have that computer working again!

The Amiga 1000 is an NTSC system.

Cheers!

www.randomize.com

I believe they have spare external and maybe internal A500 floppy drives.

The guy's name is Tom. I have bought from him before.

Hi bburgy. Good luck finding an A1000 keyboard, those are not easy to find. A monitor though, look at the bottom of the A.org home page and look though the links for retailers. The last I looked, the C= store in Boise Idaho had some. Maybe Centcible software, although their service is dodgy sometimes.

Ebay, Amibench, and Craigslist of course are your alternatives.

What do you do with your A500 everyday?  :-)

Hi,
CLS2086, you said, that it is possible to repair a not working internal flopy drive of an A500. I have the problem, that my drive doesnt work correctly. 2 Years ago(as i used the amiga last time) it worked correctly. But now it always squeaks and doesnt boot from all my disks. May you say me, how to modify that it will maybe work correctly?

Hi, thanks for the tip.

My A1000 came today. Apparently there are no kick start roms included -- anyone have any idea how to create those? I do have an A500 -- can I use the 1.3 kick start that it has in this machine? Now all I need is a keyboard...

As for the A500, I mostly play video games on it now. My father (the computer is located at my parents' place), uses it  everyday for just about everything (aside from surfing the web :P).

I have some spare A1000 parts.

- 256kb CHIP ram expansion
- 2Mb fast ram expansion
- Amigis HD case (HD is dead)

the keyboard i won't sell separately otherwise my A1000 will be completely useless. However, if you make me an offer for the keyboard AND the Kickstart i'm willing to negotiate ;)

try oldsoftware.com, they have some keyboards for 1000 for sure, ive ordered it here too.

for making a kickdisk you will need this utility (http://aminet.net/package.php?package=util/misc/WriteKickDisk.lha)

For keyboard... it's kind of hard to find a lose keyboard for the A1000 due to it only work with that one machine and not like the others that can be swapped between machines.

This information might help you in creating a converter for the other more common Amiga keyboards:

Thanks, that's awesome.

From what I see here, it should be possible to construct an adapter for a ps/2 keyboard, to  be able to connect it to the RJ12 socket of the Amiga 1000, right?

The voltages seem to match, and the ps/2 appears to carry sufficient signal lines for the RJ12 connector.

That said, I wonder if the keyboard codes from the ps/2 keyboard will be interpreted correctly by the Amiga?

Do you think any ps/2 keyboard would work, or would I have to stick with Amiga keyboards?

Cheers!
