i only want to explore a little and find some new music (to me and my ears) :-)
what is the your top 10 in the amiga mod scene?
i can't wrote my own top10 couse i don'w know about it....
-
"Best Amiga mods" really depends on what kind of music you like. I've downloaded many "Top 10" mods only to be disappointed because they were rap or guitar crap.
My favourite (non-game) mods are:
BubbleDreams
Desert Dream (mod 2)
Desert Dream (mod 1 - edited)
Lethal Exit
Das Boot
Flowing Sky (edited)
... and bits and pieces of mods from other demos (where I only like one or two blocks from the mod). If I add game mods (mod format only), I'd add:
Lotus 2 Title (edited)
Beast 2 Title
Beast 2 (starting level)
Beast 3 (esp. level 3)
Agony Intro (and level intros)
The Settlers
Stardust Title
Zool 2 (starting level)
Fantastic Voyage (edited)
(of course there are lots more awesome game music, but they're not in mod format)

Hi Neuroflip,
Have a look at THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Town-Of-Tunes-CD-ROM-RARE-MOD-CD-For-AMIGA-PC_W0QQitemZ290019655102QQihZ019QQcategoryZ4598QQcmdZViewItem) ebay auction. Its a CD of hundreds of MOD files I have it and its got alot of good MOD music files. You would need to search though it but its one of the best I have found.
-
I've always like the mods by Jogeir Liljedahl en Dr. Awesome (aka Bjorn Lynne).
Besides that, I liked the music from the Spaceballs demos, Jesus on E's and quite a lot of games.
As soon as I have installed my 4.3GB harddrive which arrives tommorow, I'm going to download quite a lot from Aminet again...
Speaking of which, what is a good .mod player nowadays?

Speaking of which, what is a good .mod player nowadays?
the easyest way have to be winamp for windows that is (amiga side i always did stick with hippo player.) some people say winamp skipps frames on mods and xm files but i can not agree too this statement..
*edit* if you like too use a ft2\octamed style program for playback check out skale.org and get the free skale tracker, personally i think it looks so cool when playback in tracker apps with all the fancy functions and all ..
-
--off topic--
Skale Tracker works only on Windows and Intel Linux.
BTW: Modplug Tracker works pretty good on the PC. It lacks some of the eye candy of Skale but it supports more file formats.
-
I'd have to say for MODs the best Amiga player is still HippoPlayer!
greatest MODs? sad to say I had a collection of over 300 of what I considered the best MODs and I lost them all =(
I am rebuilding my collection slowly, but to name a few:
analyzer
beneath
drumride
echoing
gslinger
notlh
rainy (december and september)
sweetfree
zenith

My favourite mod player for windows is XMPlay http://www.un4seen.com/

Some very good mods, in no particular order:
mod.abiturientti (from Closer/Carillon Cyberiad demo, tp95 winner, not everyone likes this one by Groo, but imo it rocks)
mod.desert dream-titel (== mod.checknobankh) (from Desert Dream / Kefrens demo, tg93 winner, laxity classic)
mod.desert dream-end (from Desert Dream / Kefrens demo, tg93 winner, laxity classic)
mod.cream of the earth (Cebit Demo 90 / TCC Design,Red Sector Inc, Romeo Knight rocks)
mod.livin' insanity (from ARTE / Sanity demo, tp93 3rd, moby rules)
mod.knullakuk (from Substance / Quartex & Alliance design demo, moby rules even more!)
mod.trip to mars (from Diznee Land #2/ Abyss, chip goodness by Meo)
mod.sleeping waste (from some pc demo, some serious chip goodness, again by Meo)
mod.gatecrashing-4 (from Comadose / Passion, more chip goodness, this one from Subject)
mod.we're the devils (used in various demos. Very nice one from Walkman)
mod.switchback [main] (from Switchback / Rebels demo, Doom's Day Party 1994 winner)
Okay that's 11, sorry about that. I could list dozens more, easily... :-)
Bonus tracks, non-ProTracker ones:
sid1.beat to the pulp (from The Real Dinkelator Doppelbock / Tristar & Red Sector Inc, Romeo Knight ownage)
aon.shadow zone (by DSN)
hip.prehistoric tale [title] (by Jochen Hippel, later covers by Jogeir Liljedahl suck)
hip.gates of jambala [intro] (from Blah Blah I/Sanity musicdisk, true classic by Mad Max)
fp.imploder [main] (from Turbo Imploder 3.0 packer program, by Paul Van Der Valk)
mods.lha (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/temp/mods.lha) - the abovementioned modules
I'm using UADE (http://zakalwe.virtuaalipalvelin.net/uade/) to play mods these days (on Pegasos II).
-
Anything done by Radix ;-)
-
Probably "Knulla Kuk" (Moby) or "Cream of the Earth" or "Standing close" (Counterpoint/WesTower) ... or many others of course.
-
- World of Fantasy by Lizardking/Razor 1911
- Midnight Run by Evelred/TLOTB
- Music Logic Concept by BKH and NHP/Anarchy
- Enigma by Tip and Firefox/Phenomena
- Elysium by Jester/Sanity
- Oberheim Power by Emax/TRSI
- And the music from World of Commodore 1992, whatever the mod is called...
-
Wow awesome list... i'll begin to download as soon as i'll finish to write :D

I didn't specify a kind of music because i like all kinds. i think that all kind have his special moment and i don't want to loose the chance of ear a gread mod cause it's hardcore or some other kind... srry my english is poor. lol
i'll write my top10 of yours top10.
Thx because sure that some mod will surprise me... a lot!
-
Come to think of it, I just have to name one mod in specific: mod.Sequential_Main2 by Mr. Man, the main theme from Sequential/Andromeda.
http://de4.aminet.net/mods/sets/SequentialMods.lha
-
'Million Miles' by Oops is a good one! (http://uk.aminet.net/mods/techn/ops-milm.lha)
:-D
The samples were taken from an early 90's dance tune called 'Million Miles from Home' by a group called Dune. The album was 'Expedicion'.
The video for the tune featured a woman being rescued in space by a guy hanging from a weird 50's hot air balloon.
-
I used "12th Warrior" on my webpage's second incarnation (via ModPlug) before I redesigned it. 12th Warrior was always one of my faves. Others off the top of my head are;
mod.crystalhammer (from the game)
mod.amegas (from the game)
mod.trainbeat (from the Rebels demo of the same name)
mod.abnormal (aka Wild Bunch from a Crionics demo)
mod.1989_a_number
mod.echoing
mod.speed-e-boy (From Jaguar XJ220)
mod.insektinsekt
mod.leave_the_brain (from Paradox's "Drunk Desert Demo")
mod.equa-1
They're all really old mods, I think I have them on 15 different mod CDs I've collected over the years.

Nothing's changed then in quite some years :-) I have always used Hippoplayer, until I sold my last Amiga in 2001, but it could happen that a new player has been coming along.
For my Windows machine, I usually use Winamp, but some mods are not played correctly. I guess I'll have to start using Hippoplayer again then...

i want to share my top10 from yours! (oops, top12)

Thx all.

Here's HippoPlayer: (http://it.aminet.net/mus/play/hippoplayer.lha)
-
I personally like EdPlayer. It works well with all sorts of MODs and MEDs, and lets me change between NTSC and PAL mode. It also has a scriptable interface via an ARexx port.
I'm running v2.1, and it's been impossible to find a newer version.
-
I never understood what the difference was between the terms MED and MOD...
Anyone?
:-)
-
MED and MOD are two different formats. Unfortunately I can't
name specific differences. Here is a mod I highly recommend:
http://dk.aminet.net/mods/pop/spacedebris.lha
This one of the few mods that made my jaw drop back in in day.
Don't waste your time if you are using crappy speakers.

Hyperspeed wrote:

MED is a variant of the ProTracker .MOD format. MED can import MOD files but supports a few features that Protracker doesn't: variable block sizes, a few extra commands, MIDI, etc.
-
If you love "Space Debris" music mod, i recommend also this:
http://dk.aminet.net/mods/pop/BeyondMusic.lha (http://dk.aminet.net/mods/pop/BeyondMusic.lha)
It calls "Beyond Music" and it's composed by Captain, same as "Space Debris"
I love that 2 tunes! :-)
-
Ah, Captain.
He's playing in Poets of the Fall (http://www.poetsofthefall.com/) these days.
-
Piru wrote:

The amiga tracking scene was his point of departure. That song "Beyond Music" has won the Gathering Music Compo in Finland.
A curious question: why the Scandinavia was the most "hitted" by the demoscene? :-?

For the PC, nobody mentioned the great deliplayer !
http://www.deliplayer.com/ (http://www.deliplayer.com/)
From the guys that made the Amiga Delitracker.
I must say the sound quality sounds really like on the Amiga (Winamp really sucks, the sound seems low-pass filtered on 90% of the mods).
I never tried any other PC player mentioned here, but I give Deliplayer five stars! It supports A LOT of more module formats than the mod, even exoteric formats like the Turrican music and the common MP3, of course.
The lastest version interface sucks... I stick to the 1.3 (no longer available?)
But take my word and try Deliplayer and judge it's sound quality. I wount' be regretted.
-
Top 10 is sooo Hard!

and the music to these Demos (off the top of my head)
Television - by Bizarre Arts (antibrain music)
One Finger - reality

Ja, I remember when I first heard 1989_a_number. What a mod that is!
12th warrior is also one of my favourites.
But I would have to say the one I played the most was Street Jungle. I don't remember who did that, but it is very good.
-
Moby rules :) Cortouchka, KnullaKuk, Livin' Insanity...
Btw. UADE (Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator) is nice multiplatform mod player. Supports LOTS of different Amiga music formats.

I'm using it also to play MP3 files... it's a universal audio player, and also beautiful if you customize that!!
But for newer mod format (XM and IT) i still use MPP
:-)
You have to try it!!!

A little off topic, but what's is considered the best 68k OS3.1 mod player. I use comtracker which is not bad and takes up little memory:)
-
HippoPlayer :D
-
Wow! Zenith, it reminds me of a cross between a Valhalen slow tune with a bit of 70s psycdelic(sp) rock.
What other slow rock style artists are out there or tunes...?
Memory lane, here's another trip!

The best mod player ever on amiga is Eagleplayer!
Work great, look great, and play all sounds formats. I use them every day.
I love mods from this games:
Dune
DeathMask
Lotus2
FullContact
CannonFodder
Flashback
Int.Karate
@sdyates
xm and s3m is mod formats made with FastTracker (PC), and Eagleplayer play them superb!!!

Did a remix of "12th warrior" with THX years back.. if you pm me your email-address I can email it to you later today :-)
And Street Jungle was made by Heatheat.
-
Can anyone remember a MOD with the sample "Industry... and technology!" in it?
Also, there was a really weird one with the "SEGA!" speech followed by a steady stream of expletitives...
Oh... and the one with "Don't - Leave - Me Al-one"... I remember those tunes from '94 when I was trying out my A1200 with Octamed for the first time.
-
sdyates wrote:

I hope you're kidding... XM stays for "eXtended Module". You don't know XM mods???
Hippoplayer dosen't play them because is a x86 PC MOD-format.
-
ja Zenith.mod was great at middle of 90s but also meditation.mod that got ranking at tp98 on of the last tp... i find some other on author site http://fby.develer.com or http://fby.develer.com/fby/mods/ dont remember, amiga rulez
-
Hippoplayer can play XM's, either using PS3M mixing or AHI mixing.
-
Well, i see you talking about good Modules.
Some of them have been allready listet at my website.
So i like to introduce modcast.de (http://www.modcast.de) nearly every day I´ll publish a Amiga Module, via Podcast or Web.
All published Modules can be heard via RadioStream (http://siduations.com:8000/listen.pls)
So feel free to have a look, grettings from Berlin, Lawny.
-
you have a new RSS suscriber :-D :-D
well done!! my iPod says thanks to you... i really like the nearly one day/one mod idea.
I'll discover great mods here.Thx for posting the url.
good work!!
-
A curious question: why the Scandinavia was the most "hitted" by the demoscene?
Hard to tell, but my (uneducated) guess would be that it was a combination of widespread home computer ownership (and usage), a state-of-the-art education system that generated enumerate teenagers (top of the league in maths/science scores in the OECD) and some really nasty weather that forced all those creative people to stay in!
:hammer:
-
Title.tune from MegaBall AGA
Sician Clan med mod
Axelf
Choon_of_the_Month (Amiga's Power - on CU disk 92)
Move_Any_Mountain
Mod.8channel (Came with OctaMED x.x but is good).

I didn't see it posted yet, but I think the very best MOD I ever remember REALLY REALLY has to be titled:
klisje_paa_klisje
do a google search for this and download it you really wont regret it I promise. Was a way awsome MOD back in the day.
A couple others I use to love and I know some where already mentioned but are very good are:
agony
bombastic_jazz
aziedrev
acidofil
which I know you can find at http://modarchive.org
>>EDIT:
Making an edit to this as I started thinking that I don't know if those are "Amiga" MODS. I guess I just always thought of them as Amiga since I've had them on my system and downloaded them from Amiga BBS's way back around 1990. Man I'm getting old ;-)
>>EDIT EDIT:
Looks like klisje_paa_klisje comes from the "Hunt" Amiga demo according to the nectarine.com website. Maybe these are Amiga mods. ;-) My dreams aren't crushed. :-D

In my opinion, the most hardcore sceners are Finnish. They must learn assembly language at kindergarden or something.
Piru, maybe you can verify this? :-)

Slightly off-topic:
On Nectarine (http://www.scenemusic.eu/) you will not only find the best oldschool mods but also the latest new music from the scene! Nectarine is streaming 24/7 in many different formats and you can request your favourite songs from the huge database.

Krisje paa krisje was a mod with a bright difference of NoiseTracker and ProTracker.
NoiseTracker hasn't tempo control, but ProTracker yes, and the command on the effect line F4F some crappy modplayers take that as a BPM envelope (and not a Speed envelope) and the mod go very slow after 3:37 seconds. Use DeliPlayer or OldSKool plugin to play it!
Anyway a GREAT song!! It rocks! 8-)
For Modcast:
You want a song to trip over the space? Try (((nebulos))) of Audiomonster! a vvvveeeerrrryyyy lllloooonnnngggg NoiseTracker mod (It durates very shortly: just 13:47 seconds! )

Also, the Superfrog soundtrack sounds awesome on my sytem.
Theres a whole lot more, but above is what comes to mind initially.. Alot of years and alot of demos, games, and music to think back on...
-
Sorry for this bump on an old thread, but it is a genius one.

-mod.ChuckIsBack
-mod.MinaOmistan
-mod.aSolidBreakfast
-mod.Bajki-O-Shamochodach
A lot of others from demos and games. Particularly those from Richard Joseph (RIP) are brilliant!

Talking about International Karate, who can make recomendations about Versions of this track, the original by Rob Hubbard in Internatinal Karate in C=64.

I concur. Jogeir Liljedahl has written some of the BEST mods out there. Guitar Slinger is one of his best. (Your mileage may vary) ;-)
-
Thanks, rkauer for dredging up this 'old' thread!
A few of my favs. ...
mod.Arvids_Fredag (despite the weird puking samples...)
HELL_RUN.mod
mod.Calibra
mod.blueprint
mod.JamminInTheWind (a real 'show-off' MOD, IMHO ...'Norway, ofcoz' :) )
almost anything by deathjester
Have to work early tommorow.... but instead I'm staying up listening to MODS.... And EaglePlayer 2.01 is my player of choice....
-
There are so many MODS made in the last couple of decades, including my own.
Lately I can not make music, because the space is inadequate.
But I have a very old tape (cassette) with some recordings from 1994-1995.
My music made with the amiga 1200 in Octamed.
It still gives me a nice mood and smile on my face.
Specialy knowing my music was way ahead in time.
The type/kind of music I was making is now in the charts.
Example?
David Guette - Memories. (except for the vocal parts)
Eric Prydz - Pjanoo.
this was the kind of music I made in the early '90s
Not something to be proud of, but nice to say.
Perhaps...one day....I can digitize the recordings....and put them on this site....so you can judge me....hopefully in a kind way.....to boldly go....where no man has gone before....
-
OK, my favourites :]
dizzy - banana split
archon - dopus
jester - stardust memories
jogeir - guitar slinger

Hmmm, I've heard a lot of great MODs since owning an Amiga...now to try to think of some of their names :D
There are days where I just want to immerse myself in a huge playlist full of them, kind of like drowning in a pool of nostalgia haha. Anyway, moving on... ;-)
I'll have to include the following, as a few of my favourites;
Syphus - A Chiptune To Save The World
Banana - Echoing
Random Voice - Monday
Jazzcat - Electric City
Jester - Stagebox Remix
Jogeir-Liljedahl - Physical Presence
Of course, you can include the wonderful music accompanying some of the best Amiga games of all time =]
There are literally too many great MODs to list. Best thing would be to download a few thousand and work your way through them!
