I'm pretty new to Amiga, and I know nothing about installing hardware in Amigas. I need help installing kickstart ROMs in my A2000. I currently have Kickstart 2.04 and would like to upgrade to 3.1. I have a Rev. 6.2 motherboard and a GVP G-Force 030 accelerator card installed. Are there any other upgrades I need to install before I install the new ROMs? If possible, I would like step-by-step instructions with pictures, because I don't think I could figure it out by just reading what to do. Any help is appreciated, and I hate to sound like a total newbie. This is probably a simple procedure for the rest of you, but I know very little about Amiga upgrading.

If you already have Kickstart 2.04 then the 3.1 upgrade should be as simple as swapping the (1) Kickstart IC with the A500/2000 version. Just make sure that it goes in the correct direction (same as the old one), and then install the Workbench 3.X software.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. I was just afraid I'd install it wrong or remove something I'm not supposed to and totally mess up everything. Is there only one ROM chip I need to replace?
-
Yes it is only one on A2000 and A500.
-
Ok, thanks again. I feel like a total idiot now for not knowing such a simple upgrade.

Here ya go! Directly from Commodore-Amiga, Inc. ;)

Hi,
You can also use a Micronik 3way rom adapter. By using this item you can insert your old kicks and use the 1200 3.1 kickroms too.
Work nicely and i also have the same config like you. But beware that if you put in an extra ramcard etc. you might get problems with the maximum RAM of 8mb. So you have to put your memory of the GVP in a higher ram space.
Just look in the forum i asked the question before too.
Greetings Henk

Local memory on the G-Force is much faster than on a Z2 card, highly recommended to upgrade that memory first - if you can get hold of the special GVP SIMMs.

Do you know of anywhere I can get the GVP simms? There's an amiga dealer not too far from where I live. Or are they so rare that not even he would have them?

There are still Amiga dealers?

Amiga Dealers = Places that sell Amiga stuff. LOL

Yeah, that's what I meant. Raymond Commodore Amiga in St. Paul, MN. (http://www.visi.com/~raycomp) It's basically a junk shop full of Commodore and Amiga stuff. It looks like someone's messy garage. You can hardly walk through the place trying to avoid all the stuff piled up on the floor. The funny thing is that the guy who owns it knows where everything is in that mess. I went in looking for a 1084 monitor and he homed in on one right away in a pile of stuff.
He might have some GVP simms in that mess somewhere, I'll have to go ask.
