Ok, so i finally got my amiga today! this is my first amiga btw. i plug it all up and it boots fine. i run and app, it starts working (pixel3d) then it crashes (I assume) and now when I turn it on only a black screen. my 4000 has highflyer and 2 scsi with the hf, internal scsi methinks is not hooked up. any ideas?

-WB version
-Expansion Cards?
Just for clarification, you say the Amiga booted when you got it. You ran Pixel3d. It crashed. Now it won't boot at all?? Nothing else happened besides running that one app?

OPEN IT UP AND CHECK THE BATTERY!!
Sorry this kills more Amigas than noobs ever will. Remove the battery if it is fuzzy at all or shows any signs of leakage. Even if it does I would still remove it and replace it with a NiMh or other type....

Ok, I have taken it all apart and been trying to figure out how this machine is configured. Its a 4000D Highflyer with a video toaster card, ide scsi card, 2 scsi harddrives, one scsi cdrom that is not hooked up. the floppy drive was also not hooked up. I got it to boot finally. Now I just need to put the computer back together the way I found it!!

Yes, definately DO remove the battery. That machine's days are numbered otherwise.

the battery looks fine, but I will do it anyways. i put stuff back together, now it won't boot again. lol. wonder what I am doing wrong! gonna take battery out and mess with a few things.

Can I suggest that you check that everything that is socketed or in slots is propererly seated and isn't loose. Small movements might be making a connection make or break.
In particular check the simms and the processor card, the processor card is on the right hand side of the board, at the front (viewing from the front of the machine). Don't forget to earth yourself before fiddling!
Sorry if this is obvious but loose connections can easily be overlooked.

yeah, definally. I have a question. Does it matter which slot on the high flyer my scsi controller is seated in?

yeah they are touchy that way, I agree make sure every ting is seat very well, alos make sure you are not getting some kind of short with th case on. any bad contact will casue that.

Ok, to limit the problem, would it be feasible to remove the VT card, flyer expansion and extra harddrives? Would it be able to boot?

Hello,
Yes, you can unplug all expension and drives, except the CPU card.
But there is a high chance that you'll have the send your machine to amigacenter in France.
Maybe your PSU is halfly dead, maybe the CPU or others components need to be resoldered or changed.
Maybe it's only oxydation

CPU board was not seated. Thank lots for the help. I just was getting so frustrated last night. UPS dropped my box, so I was scared it did some major damage! But it didn't do anything major! :) Now off to play with my new system!

The only problem I am having now is my SCSI dataflyer card is not working. So I can't use my 2 scsi driver, nor my scsi cdrom. I am not sure why it isn't working, perhaps the scsi drives got damaged in the drop (likely seeing as how scsi's are tempremental) or if the dataflyer is in the correct port. I have tried just about all the ports. Anyways, DPaint here I come!

Hi there, as for your SCSI problems, I would first take out
and re-insert the DataFlyer card several times, and do the
same with any internal SCSI ribbon cables. Oxidation could
be a problem. SCSI is not, in my experience more tempermental
than IDE, for me IDE is way more trouble. I suppose for some
people setting SCSI IDs, termination, etc. can be a pain....
Maybe check these things...though once I had 2 SCSI devices
set to the same ID, and the Amiga still could 'see' them..
I had a DataFlyer SCSI on my A500 back in the day, not nearly
as reliable as the Supra system that replaced it.
It is possible that the rough handling from UPS could have
caused damage, but IIRC, hard drives are designed to handle
an impact of 10 g's...(So I have read...)
