Ok, I always wanted to try this port (http://main.aminet.net/game/shoot/BlitzQuake_wos.lha) of Quake , but NEVER actually succeded to run it, not with my BPPC and not with my current CS-PPC! :madashell:
It looks great,
Requires: PPC, 64MB RAM, WarpOS, Warp3D v4.2
Architecture: ppc-warpup
BlitzQuake - GLQuake and GLQwcl ports by Christian Michael
GLqwcl/GLquake for WarpOS (v1.0 - first Aminet-Release)
Changes since beta4 (was 68k-only):
WarpOS versions of GLquake/GLqwcl - compiled with GCC
IMPORTANT: needs at least 600K stack set manually
- Scripts for launching from quakedir: are included
I suppose it supports warp3D , so it looks better... but I always get a ppc exception when running it, I changed the stack tooltype to 650000 , also did assign quakedir: [install dir] (I cannot see any scripts!) but nothing works!
Has anyone ever run this? I tried all the ports I could find on aminet, no other seems to have warp3D support! any suggestions?
-
Not sure if I remember correctly, but didn't the Warp3D-version from Christian Michael only support Voodoo3?
-
good, because I am using and trying it with a voodoo3/3000 on the G-Rex4000D ...

The I have to :bump: this thread
C'mon...has all knowledge about what can be wrong at mine and Keropi's setup to get the game going be lost lost among the members here???
We have different setups but still get the same error, first a WarpOS crash and then after trying to launch the game again it fails to open audio.device
Is this BlitzQuake just a lame thing which works on 1 computer out of 20?
GLQuakeWOS from the Quake you get on cd2 on the game Nightlong works perfectly and other Warp3D/PPC stuff

I have had troubles with Blitzquake_WOS also, however, Blitzquake 68k works on the very same machine, so I think my Warp3D is setup correctly. Another Sidenote is Blitzquake 68k qorks quite nicely on a CVPPC with an 060.

Have you tried GLQuakeWOS from www.soft3dev.net?

I think I have the same issue - must check as I have a bunch of executables in my Quake drawer. At least the earlier versions of GLQuake did work. But tinkering with all kinds of addons has mixed the whole setup and I don't remember which executable works from whichever script I created years ago, launched from an icon. And there lies executables without icons, perhaps renamed and whatever - a mess!

Would be great if you sat on the solution ;-)

Well I just tried and while glquakewos works fine, same can't be said about BlizQuake_wos - crash. I didn't have time to test it more throughly.

I am angry as hell because right now I cannot use my 4000. I miss vital scsi terms/cable... :-x :-x :madashell: :madashell:
those soft3dev ports look great, good job AmigaZ!

You can try to run them under MOS PUP with the right start parameters.
-
Run the 68k W3D version of GLQuake (preferably Soft3Dev version) first and let it extract all the files into ID1 folders (this happens by default when you run the game). Exit the game. Move the ID1 folders (which should now contain the extracted files as well) to the folder which contains BlitzQuakeWOS or preferably GLQuakeWOS and try running the PPC version then (after setting appropriate stack size, of course).
I've never successfully ran BlitzQuakeWOS, but I've managed to make GLQuakeWOS (the Soft3Dev version) by using the above mentioned trick.

I checked my Quake folder and first tried BlitzQuake again - just Warp exception. It may be the same thing that happens with ADescentPPCW3D version, it doesn't work either. It stopped to work after the latest WarpUp update but works with the earlier version - perhaps the same is true with BlitzQuake. The 68k Blitz worked OK - 8+ fps with 800x600... I found at least 4 different GLQuake beta versions, but the version numbers are lost as are the dates, too. Beta 2, Beta 10 and two other. 2 versions have the bug that the control panel down on the screen is corrupted (I think I reported it to Massimiliano back then). 800x600 gave some 19+ fps on 800x600 on timedemo1 (Mediator is a couple of fps faster).

it's werid that it first does a WarpOS exception and launching again it gived an IO error about can't open audio.device
Maybe the the error comes from that it want's to use the cd audio?
-
Launching again is futile - after exception it stays stuck grabbing almost 90 MB memory by me and freezing audio.device so a reboot is needed.

Hi, I got glquake to load up to the menu screen. Sadly it then crashes to WB with this error; Error: Hunk_Alloc: failed on 1544814608 bytes disconnecting from server.
I use GLquakewos version 10 beta on an A1200 with BPPC 603e+ 040 @ 25mhz with 128mb ram. Voodoo3 with mediator LT4. All my drivers and Warp3d are latest from Elbox. P96 is 2.1b.
Any ideas gladly welcome

Wooo-hoo!
Finally got it running here on my A1200 with lit files, skyboxes etc
It's fast and good looking :-)
Have a new config now..dunno if it made the difference (BPPC 240mhz + SCSI) had a 200mhz PPC and no SCSI when I last tried
Have also fiddled with some envarc settings and fine tuned the blitzquake start script
-
i had the same problem the thing i did was giving it bigger stack cant remember how big but it seemed to work flowesly after that ... i think it was the exe one not sure. a long time since i had a working bppc... "o i miss that hardware :bigcry: " Hope to find a new one ...
hope it works

any chance you share with us what you changed to make blitzquakewos working ?
like others, blitzquake68k is working but not fast enough IMHO.
I tried GLquakeWOSbeta10 from soft3dev but here I cant move with the mouse, even with +mlook :getmad:

Bump!
I get a PowerPC exception each time I run it...
