Title: Mouse problem

Hi folks.

I've got a little problem with my mouse on my 1200.
It won't move the pointer if you move it around.

I've tried :
- Using another mouse
- Using a joystick
- Unplugging my hard drive (it happened after installing my hard drive)

It won't work anywhere, not in workbench, not in early startup.
I can only click.

Any information?

Check your serial and parallel ports too. It sounds like a CIA has been blown.

And, if a CIA has been blown, do i have to replace the whole mobo?

What are the CIA's anyway? What chips?

What did you do just before it stopped working?

If you are very uncareful or try hard ;), you can short the ports with the metal shield which some mice have on the DB9-connector.

Does a joystick on that port work in say a game with 2player support?

I removed the metal shielding from my 1200 a while ago.
I've installed a 3,5 inch HD in it. I'm letting it rest for a while, so it can cool down... Maybe that's the problem?

The CIA chips only control the mouse buttons. Mouse movement is controlled by Denise.

It's a difficult repair since the chips are surface-mounted. Amiga Center in France might be able to sort you out (as well as installing sockets for an easy repair in case this ever happens again), but it won't be terribly cheap.

Well, the joystick port has the same issues.

Guess i'll get myself a new mainboard then...
It is'nt worth fixing... Too expensive i guess.

Unless anyone has another idea?

I might be able to tower it though.
