Title: Serious Sam & GTA
Post by: ruffneck on May 11, 2003, 07:12:00 PM
Yeah Guys, i just found out that the developers behind pc first person shooter Serius Sam, Croteam, created 1993-1995 Football Glory, 5-A-Side Soccer and Save The Earth for Miggy.
I've heard that years ago GrandTheftAuto was planned to release on Amiga initially, is it just a rumour?

I think one of the first games of these Croatian guys is Embryo. A 3D flying shooter type of thing.

As for GTA..no idea.

Serious Sam seems to be a fun game and it shouldn't be too hardware-demanding to run on an AmigaOne or Pegasos. Who needs GTA when  we've got Payback? :-)

it seems so obvious you have not played the latest versions of GTA, play a game of GTA 3 or GTA Vice City for that matter and you wuld not ask that question.

Payback does not compare anymore.

A GTA Vice City port, and a Counter-strike port are all I'd need.   :-D

Yes, it is very true that Croteam started out on Amiga.  The Serious Sam Engine is capable of being ported, as they do license it out.  There are various versions of SS now, including for the XBox and it is apparently getting ported to the GameCube by another company (and that one should port well to Amiga OS4, since it will then be in PPC format)

Serious Sam : First Encounter was a great game.  So was the SS : Second Encounter, but the first is always better for some reason.   Both are great fun to play multiplayer co-op online or via LAN.

And yes, GTA3 is very different, and advanced from the original.

I have Serious Sam for my Palm, which is somewhat crippled, but runs on a cheap 68K. So even a 68K port is possible... :-)

Payback is a good starting point, but it's not GTA3, no.

Would to be fun seeing it in 1024x768 and upwards some day, though (I've only seen the Amiga version, and only on an 040@40...)

Yes, it is a special version for Palm.  I started to mention that one as well.  I've seen it in Best Buy before.  If you look at the screen shots, it's pretty ugly, (See screen shots here (http://pda.iavgames.com/ssam/)) compared to the original, but not bad concidering it's on a PDA.

It's true, the original gta was created for the Amiga but the exodus of companies leaving the amiga scene and the release of the playstation meant that that neve happened.....

the original gta was created for the Amiga

There was an article in AF about that. Was the Amiga version ever completed? If not, maybe someone could finish and publish it? I just bought myself Simon The sorcerer 2 and I think it's great they finished it after so many years  :-)

If I'm not mistaken, DMA Design (Lemmings) were behind GTA. I'm sure some amount of Amiga source exists somewhere, but isn't Payback miles ahead of the first GTA? I actually never played the original.
