I'm sold on the idea of installing a slim CD-ROM drive (or similar, CD-RW or DVD) into my Amiga 1200. I'd like to know what people have used, prefer, and sources for said hardware.
One thing I've noticed is that the slim adapters on eBay are 40 pin. Are there 44 pin adapters which would work in the 1200 without additional adapters?

I think I used a black TEAC model 24x (can't recall the model # atm). Mine is hooked up with a 40 pin to microIDE adaptor I bought on eBay (You need to also install an IDE splitter type board on the internal 44pin socket, like an IDE Fix or similar because the cdrom drive is set to be master so put it on the second ide channel).

I also have a Teac 24e but i have it hooked up to a jae>40pin ide adpater and then to a buffered ide interface in my A600.
No joy getting it to work with idefix though....
Does your work ok argus?

DO you have a picture of your A600? is the drive internal? do you have an upgraded CPU? what CD Filesystem software did you install?

yeah it works fine, but mine is in an A1200 and I use one of the old DCE buffered IDE interfaces with IDEFix as the software. As I said, the slimline cd rom drive is on the second IDE channel as it only works as master (I have a 1Gb IDE 2.5" disk on the first IDE port. I use the native CacheCDFS that comes with IDEFix for the CD driver software. Seems to work brilliantly. My machine has 3.0 roms and an Apollo 68030/40MHz accelerator in the trapdoor.

it seems all the adapters are 40pin, but amigakit (http://www.amigakit.co.uk) do a 44 to 2x 40 pin IDE cable. i got my slim DVD from mini-itx.com (http://www.mini-itx.com/store/?c=5#p2115) with adapter and a few other bits and pieces like the nanoATX PSU for an internal PSU on a 1200...
hope this is usefull :-)
