Title: sound switch?
Post by: orange on August 01, 2006, 04:26:30 PM
I noticed that KVM switch lacks sound 'sharing'. So I have a one set of speakers and two computers, will it be ok to just connect Amiga sound output and AC'97 output together? What would happen if both send signal at same time?
The speakers are 2.1, active, of course.

Not a good idea. You may damage one or both of the sources, or the speakers. Have a look here (http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/linemixer.html) for a simple circuit to safely mix the signals.

There are KVM that support sound.  My Belkin does.

Or what about linking the miggy output to the line in on the other machine? Provided both are on, you'll get sound from both... That's what I do :-)

But then the other machine has to be on for it to work...

Indeed that's true... Well then it's the mixer or nothing I suppose. Then again, if you're buying KVMs it's probably likely you'd have both machines on at the same time anyway... For the few times you don't, it's only a matter of swapping over two leads...
