Title: G2K Monitor constantly goes to 'Power Saving' Mode..
Post by: marcfrick2112 on July 28, 2006, 08:30:33 AM
Hi everyone, I was given a PC pre-loaded with Xandros 3.0.1
(based on the Debian distro, iirc) Anyway, it works fine except for
1 really annoying problem, the monitor goes to 'power saving'
mode (screen goes black) after only a few minutes. I checked
the BIOS settings, display/power management settings from Xandros.
Can't figure out the prob. Anyway, all I know about the machine:
Celeron 733Mhz (?) 128 MB RAM, 18 GB HD, the monitor is a Gateway2000
Vivitron 15" Model # CPD-1523. Any help would be great :)

Does it do this when you are actually in the BIOS? If so, then it is a hardware/BIOS thing. If it doesn't then it's an OS thing and you should check the ACPI/APM settings in the OS.

Hum,
Are you sure it isn't some sort of  screensaver kicking in?

Hi everyone, Well, I got it sorted out but it's really wierd...,OK, it definitly is not a screensaver, as I wanted to SEE the 150-odd screensavers that are pre-loaded on this thing, including OpenGL ones (very cool) Well, I looked through every option, ended up turning ON Power Saving Mode from the Xandros control panel, then found out I could just set it to 'never'....and it works..... but, seriously who would expect a user to turn Power Saving ON to DISable it???? Grr, I only use this machine because my miggy doesn't handle all webpages 100%, or MPEG's very well. Thanks to both of you for your help. Amiga.org Rocks! Sorry I had to ask a non-amiga question.... :-D
