Hi guys,
I just checked Ebay and I feel like buying an AMIGA 1000 but before I will buy it I would like to know if it is possible to install and use AMIGA OS 3.1 on it.
-
Its even possible to run AmigaOS 3.9 on it.
-
Yes but it is not easy like other models, you'd be better off with any newer model. A1000 is better for the oldest legacy stuff.

Hi,
in the Aminet you can find a hack to increase the size of the WOM, that is used to store the Kickstart, from 256 kb upto 512 kb:

Yes an A1000 will run AmigaOS up to and including 3.9. There was even a really cool video floating around the Net a while ago of an A1000 with a custom 3.9 ROM running 3.9. I think Amiga Inc banned it or something though.

Why did they ban a video of a hacked rom?

You might want to see if you can find a ROM switcher board for it. Or build one, I think there's a hack on Aminet. I have the DKB Kwikstart board in my 1000. It has the 2.x ROM, so I don't see why 3.1 wouldn't work.

Ok thanks. One last question: Is it normal that the AMIGA 1000 is so yellow? I mean is the plastic so cheap, that it get´s yellow after a period? Or is the seller of it only a dirty pig? ;-)
-
Probably the latter. My A1000 looks excellent for its age, and I got it second-hand in '88.
I can't say the same for my 1080 monitor. The frame is OK, but the power button is pretty disgusting. ;)

If you have a 2MB Fast RAM card attached to the A1000 you can load Kickstart 3.1 in RAM (also can load 1.3) and have a 3.1 A1000, see TwinKick. I tried it and it works!
