Hello:
I am working on installing my new Accellerator card in my A1200. Everything seems to work fine except my CD won't mount so I figure I am missing something. Could someone walk me through the SCSI setup.
Here is what I have done so far:
The CD drive is an external Plextor that is properly terminated, it is the only device on the SCSI chain.
I have attempted to install the Phase V SCSI tools that came with the disk, but the CD does not appear on my workbench. If you scan the chain, the device does show up.
Basically need to get this working so I can install OS 3.9 -- if 32 MB is enough.
Please advise on what I am missing here.
Many thanks,
Mike

you must create a cdrom mount driver. try amicdfs (http://de5.aminet.net/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240.lha) and in the place of the scsi.device you must set the 1230scsi.device and the correct unit/id. read the info of the cd file system.
btw: your new avatar is much better than the old one :-)

@amije
Thanks for comment on my new avatar :-)
Here's the problem. My miggie is cut off from the whole world until I get the CDFS up. All my Amiga files are on CD and I no longer have a PC to copy a file to to get the device working. The networking software is also on the CD.
Is there a way to get this functioning with the software that was installed by default by OS 3.1? Or, do I need to seek a friend with a PC and get everything to get the CD ROM running copied to PC formatted disk?
Help is greatly needed. BTW: I was afraid I would somehow need to get AMICDFS over there ;-)
Thanks again!!!

i think that if you can modify a bootable workbench disk with the cdrom driver in (something like the emergency disk of 3.9 but with the correct scsi.device) you are half the way.

Well that IS exactly what you need to do. Of course any other CDFS of your preference would be OK too.
I seems you are stuck with the "the opener in in the can" problem.

OS3.1 comes with a CD filesystem. It's awful, but it's good enough for you to get a better CD filesystem onto your hard drive.
Look in SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers. Copy CD0 to Devs:DOSDrivers and modify the tooltypes to suit your setup.
(Personally, I think the phase 5 SCSI tools are awful and should never be used, but see what you think first.)

Well got most of AMICDFS installed and I suspect I am missing the 1230scsi.device file... not sure where to look or get this file?
EDIT: Looked on AMINET and could not find the file. I suppose I am missing the disk that may have had the file or is it actually someplace on the SCSI Tools Disk? Anyhow, guess I definitely need the 1230scsi.device file so if someone has a copy and would send it to me? PMAIL me please.
Thanks,
Mike

The 1230scsi.device is in ROM, there is no file. (Well, not quite true because an update is available which is a file but it's not needed for what you're trying to do...)

you dont need a file, 1230scsi.device is in a EPROM on blizzard!s SCSI addon.
try to type "version 1230scsi.device" in shell

ok... and I feel real silly now.
I am not sure then why the CD won't mount. I suppose it could be an unsupported drive, but it is the only one I had.
Have moved all AMICDFS files into their respective drawers on my hard disk, the software "sees" the drive, but alas the CD will not appear on my WB 3.1? Seems like everything *should* be a go, but I am at a loss.
EDIT: Tried the version command and it is 7.19
I *MUST* be missing something.
The drive is a Plextor Plextor PX-W124TSe
I have just now reset the SCSI ID to 5
Also the termination is on and the parity is on
should the parity make any difference?
EDIT: Think I found it? How do you edit the mount file (CD0) in DEVS:DOSDrivers? It seems to be a executable type file.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello all again:
thanks for bearing with me. Figured out the system and have my cd mounted on my workbench!
Just needed to edit the file to point to 1230scsi.device and unit 5 (the scsi id) and all is happy now.
I believe the answer was given by amije early on, but I just read it too quickly... thanks for answering it and all :-)
Anyhow, hope that this thread helps the next guy!
Thanks again all and have a great night!

Open up a shell. Type the following commands:
cd devs:dosdrivers
ed cd0
Make sure the dosdriver is correct (check AMICDFS documentation), the device should be 1230scsi.device, and the unit number should match the SCSI ID of the drive. Once you have changed these press the key, then press X, then press , and the file will be saved.
You may also need to open up the DEVS:DOSDrivers drawer in Workbench, click on the icon for CD0 and go to Information, and check the values in the ToolTypes. If the device and unit are specified then you need the change them there too and then save. Then reboot (to unmount and remount the device) and the drive should show up.

Looks like you figured it out without my help :-) Well done, glad you got it sorted.

@motorollin
Thanks for the help anyhow :-)

Glad you got it working. 7.19 is fairly old, however, and you may want to consider updating (http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=biz/patch/SoftSCSI.lha) if things seem buggy or crash-prone..
