I have a 2.5" IDE hard drive in my amiga with Workbench 3.1 installed.
When it connected directly to the IDE port it works perfectly.
But, when I connect the buffered IDE interface (DCE CDROM adaptor) to the IDE port, and then connect the HD to the buffered IDE interface, it doesn't work.
The HD powers up fine, but the amiga won't boot from it, and it won't show up in the workbench when I boot from a floppy.
Any ideas?
The HD is set a Master/Device 0.
Thanks.
BTW, I'm using an A1200 with an A500 power supply, and a Blizzard 1230 MkIV.

What happens if you do a warm reset -does this change the situation?
Is the hard drive an older unit?
-
Reestarting makes no difference.
The HD was made in 1997.

Have a look at this website. It gives you instruction how to install a Buffered IDE Interface (http://www.eyetech.co.uk/SUPPORT/SGUIDE/BUFFE002.HTM)
-
Have you seen this already??
Please note that this board does not work correctly with V43 of scsi.device
Found on BBoAH. Maybe that has something to do with it.
-
Could be, but does that have anything to do with the fact that it won't boot from the HD and it won't show up in the Early startup control?
-
What exactly is the type of IDE inteface? Is it a new? Have you tried it with any other IDE devices?
I take it that you are trying the device on its own without any other IDE devices attached apart from the hard disk.

Don't know actually, since I don't know what the version of scsi.device is in either Kickstart 3.0 or Kickstart 3.1.

I bought the buffered IDE interface used. So I don't know how old it is.
I am only trying to connect the HD because I don;t have the means of connecting any other device to it.
I am using KickStart 3.1 BTW. I can try Kickstart 3.0 and see if that makes a difference.

What jumper options do you have on the hard drive ? There may be a different combination that will work ? Oh and have a :pint: when you look at it, it will help dampen down your electrostatic discharge capabilities (hic)
-
The HD is currently set at master.
-
But what other options are there ? Is there a sticker on it ?? Some 2.5" HD's are a bit temperamental with these settings, so its worth having a look. Master with Slave ? Master alone ? anything like that ? Maybe another :pint: ? Good luck :-)
-
It has options for Master, Slave, and Cable Select.
I thought it would be best on Master, as there is only one device there, but I will try the other options.

I bought an Elbox EIDE buffered interface from Amigakit, if I don't have the cd-rom installed on the second IDE port at the same time the HDD does not boot at all. If I have the cd-rom plugged in and powered up it works fine.
-
I'll see if thats the problem.
Only thing is, I don't have a suitable power supply to power a CDROM drive.
-
Maybe take the feed from a spare PC ? Most of us have a few of those things hanging around :-o It would be good enough for testing anyway :pint:
-
I could do that actually. I should have an IDE cable long enough.
Only problems is both my PCs are Dells, and therefore have non standard ATX pinouts, therefore it isn't really possible to use just the Power supply.
