@mrbill317
If you wait a month, Individual Computers will be releasing a brand new A600 030 accelerator onto the market, the new card is also a much better design, the old Apollo cards could apparently be problematic
-
You can buy new 68030 turbo boards for A600's from Individual computers
http://www.ami.ga
(Check news section)
They are only making 110 and so first come first served.
PCMCIA friendly, 128Mbyte RAM max, 33MHz 030 (upgradable to 50MHz), unique retention clip means you dont have to glue it to your CPU, built in KickFlash OS4
The only thing it doesnt have is an FPU, but almost nothing on OCS/ECS based Amiga's ever uses one so it is no big deal.

I'm interested on the new accelerator for my A600 from individual computers, it's better than any accelerator for A600 previously made.

How can i reserve an accelerator? i can't find an email address, only the shops where you can buy their products.
I must to reserve it on the shop, or to individual computers?
-
Hey anyone know if softkit is getting them?

There is an email-facility (http://amiga.think42.com/email/email_e.htm) on the site of Individual Computers. There's where you can reserve one.

I still don't get why they didn't include an FPU.. or at least a socket for one. If you're going to make the ultimate a600 upgrade - why skimp on this?
-
the said in the release why: power and heat
-
Yeah but there are 2 common 030 accelerators that DO have FPUs - one of which is quite stable (but has no ram expansion options).
I'd have preferred they'd left me the choice whether to install an FPU or not (just like they leave you the choice to install a faster 030).
I have a MTEC 030 upgrade at the moment - if the new card had an FPU it would be a no-brainer whether to get the new card or not.. now I have to think.
-
still u are forgetting an important feature: built-in kickflash....
and the fpu is of no importance, what will you run with it??? the 030 has no power to play ,let's say 3d games, so ?
-
Well the function of the kickflash has not been well explained yet. I've never been too sure of the utility of the zorro kickflash really.
PS: does anyone who has bought a zorro kickflash consider it money well spent?
-
I have a kickflash OS4... it is great because with only the initial power-on you enter at once on os3.9 , no more setpatch/bppcfix/etc reboots, plus I can have the usb stack loaded on boot time...

The main reason 99% of A630's dont work very well (if at all) when using the FPU is because the timing margin on the signals is almost NONE.
Jens examined the idea of making an direct clone of an A630, using a logic analyser on several different ones and discovered that it wasnt an accelerator design problem, it was inherent in the A600 motherboards.
A POLL of all the people who expressed an interest in the accelerator was taken sometime in 2004.
Amongst other things we were asked to list of all potential FPU capable programs including games, demos etc.
I think that Jens then decided that given this list it just wasnt worth the risk, expense or added heat to include an FPU in his design.
(Forgive me Jens if I am getting the details confused)
-
well it does sound like an advantage then - providing they get the software working as they say.
As for the FPU it's not so much about using it, it's more about having it - just in case. Just like we don't really need 128MB of ram either.
