Title: Re Who Made Better Hardware Phase 5 Or DCE?
Post by: amiga1084 on July 05, 2006, 02:37:59 PM
Hello All,

I have always heard Phase 5 made better and more reliable hardware
I have Cyberstorm 060 PPC (Phase 5 made) and (DCE made) CyberVisionPPC Board.
I hear that DCE used same chips but later and better revisions is this
true and can overclock them faster and had faster memory access on DCE Boards?

Merv,

I'm sure others will post here as well but over the course of time it *APPEARS* as if the Phase 5 produced cards have held up better (more reliable).  When DCE took over Phase 5 production, card owners started to report more occurences of defects.

I think that DCE's biggest problem is / was their extremely poor customer communications.  It could be months between the time a card was sent in for repair before DCE would provide an update to the card owner.  If you do a search here on AO you will find several stories relaying just that.

As for DCE boards being "better", I don't know about that.  They may have used later revision chips but given the problems encountered by users, I'm not sure I would do anything to a functional DCE board.

EDIT - I have never owned DCE manufactured equipment.  In the past I have owned Cyberstorm MK2, MK3 as well as Cybervision PPC all of which were made by Phase 5 and stamped as such.  I have no first hand experience with DCE components.

Regards,
Ltstanfo

on my signature, the BPPC, g-rex and scandoubler/ff are all DCE. never had any probs...
I guess it all depends on the luck of the end-user... lol

DCE took quite early the production of CVPPC, mine is DCE labelled @DCE 2000, with P5 on the PCB.

I had a DCE B2060, seemed to work ok..

Never had any problems with P5 hardware either. :-)

my opinion :the phase 5 bppc is better because the pcb is very strong and the layers is to have for the soldering iron if some time you want to put out some parts.the dce pcb is to cheep and you must be careful with the soldering iron. :rtfm:
