Title: Problem w/ Workbench 3.1 (I think?)
Post by: pan1k on June 29, 2006, 05:47:33 AM
Ok so i installed workbench 3.1 this afternoon on my new drive. I have an A1200, but the install disks are labeled A4000T. I tried running DOPUS and it gives me this error:

Directory Opus
Program failed (error#8000000B)

I think it's due to the fact that I only have a 68040.library and not a 68020.library, does this make sense? How can I fix this problem? I checked the Install disk for WB3.1 and it only has the 68040.library.

Thanks!

There is no need for an 020 library.  Do other programs have trouble?  What version of DOpus are you running?

I expect this is due to you using A4000 Workbench disks. The versions of some of the libraries will be different compared to the A1200 version, and may be causing problems with the A1200 Kickstart ROM, which then causes errors when you run software.

I would try to locate an A1200 version of Workbench 3.1 if I were you.

The Kickstart (40.70) for the A4000T does not contain the workbench.library. It was removed from the ROM to the Workbench disk's Libs drawer - however the Amiga A1200's Kickstart (40.68) has this already in ROM as soon as the Amiga is powered on.  These two libraries could be causing the conflict.

Also the A4000T system disks will load Commodore's buggy 68040.libary which will conflict with Amiga's without a 68040 CPU.

Another idea, do you have kickstart 3.1?
If your running 3.0 I bet that would cause some problems.

I remember dopus 4.16 always crash if caches are not enabled or setpatch is not launched first
4.16 version is not a version made by the original author and contains lots of bugs
Use 4.12 last version from the original author unless you need long filename support and 0s3.9 icon support otherwise you can try diskmaster 2 which is a better and freeware choice

Thanks guys. Looks like I have some work cut out for me. I'll try moving the 68040.library out and see what happens. This isn't my final setup so I am more than willing to mess up my installation of workbench. The real fun begins when I can move files to the amiga that I have downloaded. I'll post up with my results!
