When my internet hosting for the year ran out, I was in two minds whether to renew it. 1&1 Internet (UK) made my mind up for me by threatening to send the bailiffs round to collect the next years money (plus charges, plus bailiffs fees)!
Apparently I was supposed to cancel the account myself rather than just not pay for another year.
Every week I do my grocery shopping at Co-Op. If I skip a week I don't expect them to send the heavies to my house and force me to buy carrots and cheese!
Avoid 1&1 and whoever you choose, read the small print...

Hum,
1&1 is out of order
Give BBC watchdog a phone.

Ahum, the majority of subscriptions I have are being paid that way, there is totally NOTHING strange about that. You did read the customer agreement, didn't you? :rtfm:

Hum,
it sounds like bad customer service to me.
A pleasant reminder letter should have been sent first,
(that, if ignored, would have been followed up by a stronger termed correspondence).
For example, in the UK, the electricity suppliers cannot send out a strongly worded RED coloured bill, when asking for payment. Only afterwards, if you ignore that, can they resort to mild threats.
