Hi people,
I've just got a new netgear router, the problem is it overheats under heavy load, and I need to find a way to cool it, or in a few months it'll be totally dead.
I'm looking to find the smallest, or thinnest fan I can find to fit inside the case (it's a horrible tiny plastic case with hardly any vents).
I intend to drill some vents and fix the fan inside.
Does anybody know somewhere in the uk where I can get a small fan from? Or alow profile fan?

How about a BlizzardPPC fan (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=343)? They are 30mmx30mm and just 6mm high - however 5v - we have 3.3v as well if you need.

£16.99 for a fan? I almost had a heart attack when I saw that price!
I am sure that you can get these fans about $7-$12 or £4-£7 on the net! And even then I thought that was expensive for a fan!

If this is a NEW router, you should just take it back and get a different make / model! One that DOESNT overheat under heavy load!

Every router in the range overheats (it's a netgear wgt634u), but I can't find another router with the same functions as this one. In addition I purchaced it as a refurb from an ebay auction, and I'd rather get some cooling in it than pay to return it for a refund. I'm not sure how mad that sounds.
Also £16.99 is assrape for a fan, dedicated amiga retailer or not, I aint paying seventeen quid for a fan I could get for a fiver from maplin.

although i understand that purchasing a £16.99 fan for a used router is a wast of money but do you (all) know that there are fan and "Fan"?
Do you wanna see a 40x40mm fan for 35 Eur (+VAT)?

Drill plenty of holes on both shortsides and mount it standing up on a wall or something with one shortside up and one down with nothing directly above or beneath it. The circuits inside it will then warm the air inside the case and make it rise up through the holes in the shortside facing up, forcing fresh cold air to enter the shortside facing down. This method of cooling is called convection cooling and should be enough for this case.

less sensible to rust,
less sensible to the petrol quality and can use exotic liquid and gaz
less sensible to little shocks (with its plastic body)
less hard to conduct in trafic jam
less hard to put in a car park
less hard to repair
4 humains seat (+ 1 for a troll)
less noisy engine
less tax
less "fuel" consumption
less "noisy" engine
less risk to get a speed excess
...

Why don't you leave the plastic shell on your router ? Take it off, and would be better.

Nah, passive cooling should do the trick. Try using it with the lid off to see what is getting hot (and let us know !) then stick some heatsinks on whatever it is. I had noticed my 54G Wifi Belkin router gets a bit warmer than I would like :-( Oh, and don't forget to have a :pint:
