Title: Where to get GVP series1 HD install disk
Post by: amigasrule on June 24, 2006, 02:28:38 AM
Hi ya, the A2000 I have came with a GVP HC+2 SCSI card with a 40m drive running WB1.3. After getting a kickstart switcher I went to install WB2.0 but the install disk that came with the computer was dead and of course the WB2.0 install disk doesn't see the GVP card.
Anybody know where I can get another GVP series 1 installer disk or similar that will allow me to install WB2.0? And yes I know I can download a copy of the net but I have no way of getting it onto a 3.5inch disk from my ibook!
Thanks

You need the GVP FaaastPrep utility if I recall.  You can still use the "HDToolbox" program from Workbench 2.x though.  All you have to do is specify the "device=gvpscsi.device" in the tooltypes in the icon, or type "hdtoolbox gvpscsi.device" from a CLI/Shell.

Give that a whirl first...

On a related note, I need the version 7.0 ROM files for the A2091 SCSI controller.  I want to burn a set to replace the 6.6 and 6.1 versions on the controllers I have... Can anyone here help me out?

Hey glitch tried changing the device name but still no go... it would just hang while searching for the drive. Mind you I'm having the occasional r-e-a-l slow startup with the A2000, think the power supply is on it's way out.

do you know if the gvpscsi.device is being loaded ? you can check it if you have sysinfo, or with the version gvpscsi.device command.

don't have sysinfo but in the dho_mountlist there's a reference to gvpscsi.device but using version to look it up gets me nothing but if I do version scsidev.device I seem to have a version 3.0!

Hi,
I've got no problem with sending along a .DMS file of the GVP install disk, but as you mentioned, I'm not sure how you can get it off of your Mac on to the Amiga...

Hmmm... If you were running E-UAE on your iBook, you could grab the file I send, un-dms it and write the necessary files to a low density PC floppy (if you've got an external USB floppy available to your Mac) and mount the "PCO:" DOSDriver under WB3.x on the Amiga to give you the ability to read the PC floppy... whew.

GOOD LUCK!

the series 1 is this (http://www.l8r.net/install/hard_drive_cont/GVP-SeriesI_v1.3.dms) disk but to make a real floppy from it is another story...
