I have test the cf to ide adapter (both 2.5 & 3.5 versions)
to my a1200 with 3 differend cf cards (16mb hitachi, 256mb sandisk, 2gb ultra II sandisk!) but hdtoolbox didn't found drive for partitioning. I have try all possible combinations,
slave, master, os3.9, os3.1, with hd or without, with 2.5 and with 3.5 adaptor but nothing. Now I have my amiga opened on my desk and many parts on my bed, so please make something quick.

have you tried hdinsttools? sometimes it gives better results..
-
How are you powering it? I don't think it will take its power from the IDE port, you need for instance a Y-adaptor from the disk drive socket.
-
the 3.5 adapter takes power from my external PC modified PSU that I use to power my a1200 040/40mhz. the 2.5 adapter powered from the ide port as a regullar 2.5 HD. none works. Have any of you a working cf ide system? any idea?

I have try both....nothing. And the better is the red led of cf to ide controller is blinking when I boot. And blinking again when the hdtoolbox scan for devices. It seem to be incompatible with cards, but with 3 cards??? (16mb hitachi, 256mb sandisk, 2.0gb ultra II sandisk)

Hi,
maybe you have a defective adaptor, do you have Kick3.1 ?
Have you tried it on PC before ?
-
I'm curious to see where this goes as well since I'm looking to put a CD IDE on my A1200 and A4000.
-
It has been done, no problem.
All: use a Lexar card, in my opinion thats the best card to use.
Master-Slave chain could be a problem with other cards.
-
I have 3.1 kick. My adaptor isn't defect because I tryed 2 adapters (2.5 & 3.5). The 3 cards works with pc via pcmcia adaptor and to my hp200lx palmtop. O.K. the lexar is the best, but nowhere read before to not use any other cards. Probably the firm isn't problem. :-(

Most other cards will work fine if you have a Elbox fast ata.
If you use a IDE-fix adapter - forget about using any CF cards...
Lexar cards work fine in a master - slave setup with the A1200 built in IDE interface.

Mine is on an EIDE 99, Sandisk 512MB card, CD-RW 32X. Didn't even need to check which was master/slave, it just happened to work straight off. I've tested with other sizes of Sandisk card and with Kodaks, all worked.
-
I went to Lexar's website and cannot seem to find a link to an internal IDE CF reader product...
-
What about something like this?

I have put together and sold 11 of these CF to IDE, I had same problem here with some CF cards in the end i used a program called RDprep (http://it.aminet.net/disk/misc/rdp391.lha) for some cards and an older unknown HD setup program (will find name when have time),these cards would not be seen by HDTools but older software found them odd i know ,also the current setup needs no power it all comes from the 1200 built in IDE.

That is my hardware plus 2 more older cf cards (16mb hitachi & 256mb sandisk).
The truth is I have the idefix adapter, but not only test it with idefix adapter. I have tried to connected the "2.5 ide to cf" on amiga original 2.5 ide port (without idefix board offcourse) not works again. The led of adapter blinking when amiga boots. Blinking again when hdtoolbox scaning for devices, but don't seen the cf cards as hd.

I use the sintech "IDE to CF (Compact Flash) Adapter for Laptop #44-pins"
You must use a jumper on this board to make the CF card the master device. Check your jumper is on and also check the jumper pins on the board are straight and are making good contact with the jumper.

In HD toolbox: hit the "change drive type" button, then "Define new..." and after that "Read Configuration".
Give the drive a name and hit the "ok" button (never mind the "unit is not a dos disk" error message).
Now you should be able to partition your cf-card in hd toolbox.

In hdtoolbox didn't present the cf card as unknown or whatever. The hd toolbox find only my IBM 4.0GB hd.
If I'll hit the "change drive type" button and "define new" this action will remove all data from my HD. Anyway... now I know this project isn't works for me but I don't know why.

Are you using your IDE-fix adapter..?
Try this:
1. You should have only your CF-IDE adapter (with CF card installed) connected to the IDE port.
2. Start with wb3.0 or 3.1 Install disk and start HD toolbox from the diskette.
Now HD toolbox should find your card.
Then follow the steps from my previous post.
It should work.

It isn't work with or without idefix, but even was worked without idefix I wasn't happy without cd-rom

Ok, its strange that hd toolbox cant find your card(s).
I know that at least your 256Mb Sandisk card + 44-pin adapter should work (but not in a master-slave chain) because i have tested it myself.
Maybe it isnt compatible with all mainboard revisions if you cant get it working.
About the cd-rom and cf-card:
1.There is two options: use a Elbox splitter or Fast Ata (should work but i have not tested it myself).
DONT use a ide-fix adapter, because the software is not compatible with CF cards.
2.Use a Lexar CF card, at least i know 512Mb cards and less capacity works, those i have tested.
Set up a master-slave chain with the internal IDE interface and install for example the CD-Rom software included in OS3.5 or 3.9.
That works fine!

hang on, surely if his miggy detects his IBM drive, he must have both connected...
and from what i understand ur saying that won't work...
emmm...
:/
-
And it doesnt...
In hdtoolbox didn't present the cf card as unknown or whatever. The hd toolbox find only my IBM 4.0GB hd.
The CF card is not detected.
I dont know his exact configuration there, but if you use a master slave-chain with the cf as master and a cd as slave, the CD-Rom will not work with most CF cards.
-
When I used cf with idefix and hd, the hdtoolbox detect only my hd. When disconnected idefix board and hd and connected the cf to ide on motherboard, then booted from floppy and hdtoolbox wrote: "no hd devices connected" or something like that, I don't remember exactly. Probably my cards is not combatible.

Finally I have tested the hdtoolbox_cf with idefix and it didn't worked. I don't care to test it without idefix because I don't want cf without cd-rom.
I give up. :pissed:

As I said before, I use the exact adapter you've got. I've tried with a 16mb card and a 64mb card. This is my experience:
With CF as master on with no slave, works fine.
With CF as as master and a hard disk as slave, CF doesn't work at all, doeasn't show up in hdtoolbox, however the slave hd works and shows up fine. :-?
With CF as slave and hard disk as master, both work, both show up in hdtoolbox, no problem! This is how I use it.
When I tried to start idefix with a CF installed ANYWHERE on the IDE chain idefix would not start and would hang the machine. Other people have posted on this board with the same results: idefix appears not to wotk with a CF on IDE!
So I expect if you want to set up CF as master with CDROM as slave and use idefix, judging by my experiences and the experiences of others I'd say your chances of success are slim indeed.

Can I still download this patch? The link is broken now, and I've been having so many problems trying to get my CF cards to go with my IDE adapter.
