Hi,

You have to go about it in a round-about way. The instructions here (http://www.markcarter.me.uk/computing/aros/hdinstall.htm) will help (though some of the wording has changed ever so slightly).

It does work though, with the exception of networking - though it hopefully won't be long (http://aros-exec.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=124) (scroll down to the news article below the recent posts) before the relevant network device is part of the nightly builds...

It's a bit fiddly, but only takes about ten minutes!

Both UAE and E-UAE are present in the "Extras/Emu" directory (assuming you've grabbed a stable or nightly build) but I've not yet tried either.

Oh, it wasn't that bad. I followed those instructions and have AROS on an old PC. The instructions are very detailed and just takes a few minutes. Okay, so you probably want about half an hour to dedicate to this.
Maybe the installer bounty need to provide more incentive.

hmm.. since it has (E)UAE I'll spend the time to get it working..

Hi,

As youve no doubt found out by now - the auto partitioning tool (c:partition) fails to prepare the drive, so InstallAROS doesnt have anything to format.

The solution as you've also been told/found out is to manually partition it in HDToolBox for the time being ..

I hope to take a look at c:partition sometime in the near future and fix the problems with it - and also make it use only freespace by default, and have an option to forcefully nuke a drive.

The options are in InstallAROS but not doing anything atm..

yours,
Nick Andrews

Definitely worth it, especially as the VMWare Server beta is free.

Very impressed with how AROS keeps improving, and it'll be great once the required AMD PCNet device is included to allow networking from within the virtual machine (this'll save me from having to create ISO CD image files for anything additional I want to install into it!)

@kalamatee: keep up the good work!

we allready have a pcnet32 driver! =o)

Ah, but it's not yet in the nightly builds and I'm not registered for SVN access (my programming skills are not good enough to contribute anything to the AROS project!)

If you were feeling kind, perhaps you could make a compiled "pcnet32.device" file (or whatever it's been named) available for download? Or should I just be patient?!

LOL

well the pcnet32 driver is my contribution aswell =/

I will put a binary on AROS archives for those wanting/needing it - I forgot it wasnt compiled during the build system.

The reason it doesnt is the same as for the nforce driver - it causes problems for the hosted build so by default its just not built.

Cool! This'll help lots of people get more out of AROS.

Fantastic! Presumably it'll appear here (http://archives.aros-exec.org/index.php?function=browse&cat=driver/network)?

Cheers,

Thats the intention however just now submitting to AA seems to be disabled.

For now they can be obtained here ...

PCNet32 NIC Driver http://s3.quicksharing.com/v/482069/pcnet32.1.0.i386.zip.html

nForce NIC Driver http://s3.quicksharing.com/v/9063140/nforce.1.0.i386.zip.html

Well... it worked!

I can now ping things, including those on my local network and those on the Internet at large...

But I unfortunately was unable to get AMosaic working - it stops with an error that would seem to indicate that a MUI component might be missing... However, the same AMosaic build launches fine under AROSMax, so I guess I need to do a bit of configuring...

Great =)

I havent looked at Mosaic for a while so I couldnt say for sure what is the problem.  Perhaps when i have time next (possibly at the weekend) I could take a look and see if theres anything obvious wrong.

Let me know if you have any issues with the drivers though ..

The drivers seem fine - great work!

Grabbed AiRcOS and logged in happily to #AROS, so no problems there.

Tried wget and ftp (old versions from AROS-Max) but they don't seem to want to connect to anything. And still have no luck with AMosaic.

But it's getting there!

Amosiac is very buggy.  ftp should work (it does for others) but I'm not sure if wget works or not.

Hi,

I realise AMosaic is buggy, old and HTTP1.0 only! But thought I'd give it a go anyway.

As for ftp and wget, perhaps I'll try them on a newer nightly build (the one I'm using is a few days old).

Regards,
