Again, flicking through amiga format (latter issues) bought back a story to me that i had forgotton about. A company called IWIN who were to make updated amiga clones.
Can anyone tell me why that hoax came about? It seemed pretty elaborate at the time. There doesnt seem a lot on the web about it.
Maybe it wasnt a hoax but i dont recall anything else about it and amiga format closed shortly afterwards.
Anyone got any info?

 It was a hoax, all right. I suspect that the idea was to lure venture capitalists into investing boatloads of money into what would turn out to be nothing, and then to run off with whatever they could get.
Mind you, most scams aren't terribly well thought out....

iWin... Yet another promise from the past that never materialized. If I remember correctly the iWin surfaced at the time that the Boxer was still a possible 'new' Amiga. The promise came at just the right moment, shortly after yet another Amgia-brand owner went bust.
I even had a brief e-mail contact with one of the persons behind the iWin 'operation'. I asked them how they did it / planned to do it. And if I remember it all correctly (it's been years ago...) to me it sounded like a bog standard PC with an add-in card running UAE in hardware. Dont shoot me if my memory is playing funny games with me tho ;-)
Googling for 'amiga iwin clone' (google.nl (http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=iwin+amiga+clone&meta=)). shows some more or less interesting reading on the subject.

Check the archives of the comp.sys.amiga.misc newsgroup (http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.amiga.misc/search?group=comp.sys.amiga.misc&q=iwin&qt_g=1&searchnow=Search+this+group) on Google News.

IWin ULose was the popular credo I believe.
