Hi Everyone,
Im just looking to see if someone can give me a break down of all the unoffical 3.9 patches that are floating around out there. I would like to know what they do, how good they are and where to get them!
Thanks,
AmiBoy

These are essential IMHO
IconBeFast (Aminet)
MemTrailer (Aminet)
TagLife (Aminet)
BlizKick (http://piru.dyndns.org/~p/sw/)
Remus (http://www.doobreynet.co.uk/amiga.html)
Romsplit (http://www.doobreynet.co.uk/amiga.html)
WarpDT (http://www.warpdt.co.uk/)
AutoUpdateWB (Aminet)
PowerWindowsNG (Aminet)
Env-handler (Aminet)
HSMathLibs, if you have a '040 or '060 CPU (http://www.hsmathlibs.de/index_e.html)
These are only 68k patches and not any GUI patches which is a bunch also

Very nice thread! I hadn't even thought of what patches I should get when I get OS3.9, which I'm getting soon.
If you have the time to write a brief explanation of what these patches are/do I would sure appreciate it!
Also, I read the Blizkick link and didn't see mention of the Warp Engine cards being supported. I assume they are though.
What about FBlit? Is that function covered in the above mentioned patches or within OS3.9?
-
Oh, forgot FBlit (Aminet) for AGA users and FText (Aminet)
If we're talking AGa let's not forget Systempatch or BlazeWCP (Aminet)
There's a newer Systepatch on the creators homepage which I'll get back with later
There's an explanation on what each patch does with it's included readme or on the website but I can explain them in my words if someone wants it but that will be later because now I'm going on a fishing contest *wish me luck* :-D
-
Kronos whishes those fishes luck (they'll need it more).
-
Good luck ;) Sounds fun.

Unofficial 3.9 patches (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/sys/OS39_update_patches.lha)

ShellUpdate (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/boot/ShellUpdate.lha)
This patch fixes some bugs of the 45.7 shell that was published with BB2.
There's also some patches in RemApollo (http://main.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/boot/RemAPollo.lha)
-

@Gojirax
WarpEngine is not supported, since it hasn't got MapROM features.
@Laser
Keep up the positive mind, always a pleasent experience to read your positive posts!

The big 3 that I use are the aforementioned Shell update, this (http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/misc/FFS4514p.lha) FFS update, and the ram-handler (http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/boot/PatchRAM.lha) update.
In addition to the Update Patches mentioned in a previous post, there's a second archive (http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=util/sys/OS39_update_patches2.lha) that fixes some of its bugs.
-
The most complete archive with unofficial OS3.9-BB2 patches is included in AmiKit. The list is here (http://amikit.amiga.sk/patches.htm).
To get the patch archive only you have to subscribe to the amikit yahoo group by sending an (empty) email to amikit-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Then visit the file area of this group.

I'm afraid that if you take the "Terms Of Use" really serious, not a single human being is allowed to use the package:
Terms of use:
PLEASE READ THESE TERMS OF USE CAREFULLY:
§1 This package, either in whole or in part, MUST NOT be used:
on any machine which is used for the research, development, construction, testing or production of weapons or other military applications. This also includes any machine which is used in the education for any of the above mentioned purposes.
by people who accept, support or use any kind of violent or other aggressive behaviour against other people or animals.
I bet there are not many people that don't kill midges, flies (especially while driving by car) and the like by violent or agressive behaviour...
:-D
-
Oooooops - sorry, double posting - removed.
-
@Dandy
at least I forced you to think about it...

Hum, isn't "forcing someone" a kind of "violent or agressive behaviour" as well?
:-?
-
Yes but does anyone actually read, let alone abide by, such silly agreements?
I certainly don't.

If you don't read such an agreements, how do you know it's silly?
If it's silly, why do you accept this agreement?
If you agreed, why do you publicly say you won't follow the rules?
It must be fun making contracts with you, really! No matter what area it covers.

§1 This package, either in whole or in part, MUST NOT be used:
You can still use it against terms and service. It is more like "do not use hairdryer when in shower". You can still do it but you are on your own if something happens.
