Title: DCE CV64/3D vs Phase5 CV64/3D
Post by: doctorq on June 16, 2006, 09:53:54 PM
Just wanted to know if there are any speed differences between a DCE produced CyberVision 64/3D and a Phase5 produced CyberVision 64/3D?

Nope, not really. Some DCE CV3Ds have a little adjustment that let`s them work in fast ZII mode in the Z4 board.

But what processor do you need to have benefit on that speed increase ?? I used to have such a DCE one in my 68030 tower in a Fast Z2 slot and it was pretty fast to me but I donĀ“t know if a Phase5 one would work slower

Just made some SysSpeed tests with both a DCE CV64/3D and a Phase5 CV64/3D card. Don't know if SysSpeed is a good benchmarking tool though.

Anyway, the results can be seen here (http://web.sonofon.dk/allan-muller/Phase5vsDCE.txt). With a DCE CV64/3D the rom access is improved a bit, however there are some massive improvements in other areas like Intuition/WinLayer, Intuition/Size, Intuition/Move and all Graphics/Area fields.

The DCE graphics card is only sligthly slower than the Phase5 in a few areas, so it seems like there is a difference in speed between the two cards. Not that big a surprise since the DCE has 50 ns ram chips, while the Phase5 has 70 ns ram chips.
