will a standard VGA monitor work with a Retina ZII card?

Yes, I think it will work with any VGA monitor.

Yep... The Retina can output to a standard VGA.  

But you can only use a Retina to run Retina-specific programs.  The Retina ZII CyberGraphX drivers have never worked, AFAIK.

The Retina Workbench replacement works fairly well, though, so many things that display on Workbench can work on it.
