Crash your expensive PC.
Install Windows on it! :-D

My "expensive" PC is a 4 and 1/2 years old Celeron I 400MHz on an Abit BH6 (BX chipset RuLeZ!) with Windows 2000 Pro SP3 / Windows 98 SE and nearly never crashes!
As for IE, I think it is a great browser (after Mozilla my next fav) overall.
But it is always fun to find idiot bugs from time to time :)

Mine is a 1Ghz Tbird with 512MB RAM, hardly state of the art, it runs Debian/AROS, and never crashes.

Wow it does indeed, although you dont need the crash bit as:
crashes the latest update of ie6 that I'm using. Infact just:
without the form or html tags will do it. :-o

ROTFL!
Great! My wife begins to learn how to build homepages. So I dictated her the above code and tried itit with IE 6on her PC. Crash Boom! Now its hidden on her homepage :-)
BTW try to click the html file with Windows Explorer but no 2 times just 1 time even Windows Explorer crashes. It's not even possible to rename the fiel or delete it via Windows Explorer.
Well on my iMAC with OS X 10.2.5 the page is displayed correctly with IE 5.2.
Years ago a French hacker mag showed HTML code only 5 lines or less on how to shutdown any Windows PC!!! It's a hidden HTML code and was intended to remotely shutdown a Windows PC via Internet. Unfortunately I have lost this mag and can't remember the code.
It would be fun to install that homepages :-)
Bye Manou

Hmm... That is indeed strange. It just exits my IE 6 with recent service packs on XP. haha! Of course, it exited ALL running copies of IE, though, so it was probably a crash that just didn't display any dialogs.
Seemed fine on my RedHat 9 with Mozilla, though. ;-)

Wow, didn't think of that. Of course it crashes the preview in the file explorer as well :-)

Well is it really surprising that an *Internet Explorer bug* affects Internet Explorer, but not another browser?
Bugs which arise from things like coding mistakes are generally very unlikely to appear in exactly the same form in different programs; this isn't like comparing features. Don't get me wrong - I prefer Opera and am using it now, but that's not because of it being more stable (I've come across webpages which crash it that worked fine on IE).

Hm.. I've read the article on "theinquirer" two days ago. Unfortunately this "trick" doesn't do anything to my IE6 (on XP with latest updates).
For those for who this trick works, besides "crash" you can type anything you like i.e. "IE sucks". The bug works for every program that uses shlwapi.dll (Outlook, Frontpage) so it isn't IE's fault, rather bug in the lib.
Anyways, Opera7.10 rulz for me.

Win2000 Server SP3 with IE6.0.2800.1106 - crashes with error message and bug submission requestor.
Win2003 Enterprise Server (RC2) with IE6.0.3718.0 - cleanly exits IE completely with no error message.

www.Fails.org is pretty good, too. It doesn't crash your browser, but it will make both IE and Mozilla use up more than 300+ megs of RAM and make your computer crawl. :)

That's good, but better yet, running IE6 under Windows XP, I get a crash when visiting Microsoft.com (just the main page as far as I can tell).

With Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition (RTM) with IE 6.0.3790.0 - it resulted in a blank web page while visiting www.fails.org.
