Title: World Cup 2006
Post by: Cyberus on June 09, 2006, 07:56:14 AM
I notice there's no thread on here yet, at least not one that's prominent. I'm really looking forward to it (despite being sick of all the hype and flag-waving already).

Best of luck to all supporters here on Amiga.org, I know quite a few of your teams will be playing
Australia, Netherlands, Germany, France, Sweden, USA, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, etc etc etc

Anyway, just to annoy the Scots ;-)....

Will you be hoping England lose all their games?

Yep, I'm fed up with all the flag waving by the mentally sub-normal* and the popular opinion that as we gifted the game to the world we automatically are favourites to win the cup - and the tournament proper hasn't even started yet!

However, if we do bring the trophy home I'll be very proud and writing to my MP campaigning for Sven to be given an honarary knighthood.

But saying that, my gut instinct is that Argentina/Germany will knock us out on penalties again...

There's always 2010. :pint:

(edit:* not referring to the fine folk here of course, unless you were piloting the blue Toyota with St Georges crosses which was driving right up my bum on the A11 yesterday)

Nicholas, its more of a tongue and cheek banter between two nations.

However England has brutalised and abused the welsh nation for hundreds of years, including banning the welsh language.

you talk of racist fools, theyre arent any BNP councillors in Wales or Scotland...

Now that was a really frustrating game. And please mr coach, let Källström play from the start for once!

I lived in North Wales for 6 months in 2001, from my experience the Welsh are not tolerant of English people whatsoever.  The ones I lived amongst hated English people.

I spent a week in Dolgellau in 2004 and can vouch for that. The North Welsh are occasionally very intolerant of the English to the point of violence.

I sat down and watched that game with a very unhappy Swedish girl, who had some choice words to say post match.

Still, Trinidad and Tobago put on a very plucky performance despite being the underdogs.  Luck was simply not on Sweden's side during the game.

Not really. Aside from the fact that they've already won the first one, I'm not too fussed.
On the other hand, if England losing means I get another chance to laugh at the brain-dead numbnutz that is Ian Wright, whining like a spoiled child, then I'm all for it.
Or there's always Clive Tilsley. He never tires of xenophobically slagging whoever England are playing.
In fact, if all England's games were broadcast without any partisan commentators, I might even want them to win. ;-)

I also feel sorry for whoever takes the blame this time round.
Just had a thought, why don't we run a sweep:
Who will carry the can when England get knocked out?
There are a couple of obvious candidates in Rooney & Eriksson but it could be anyone.

I'm not really into footbal in a big way (any of its codes), but I did enjoy watching the end of a game last night.  Got out of bed for a drink, and watched the last 8 minutes of the Australia-Japan game go from 0-1 to 3-1.  Well, that was fun.

I do get extremely tired of all the jingoism though (not just in sport, either).  At least the football broadcaster here is the station with a lot of international employees: they're a lot lighter with the xenophobia.

Rugby is played by men who repress their homosexual tendencies in real life, so endulge in their desires on the field.  All that grabbing each other and rolling around in mud, and taking a bath together afterwards.

Footballers on the other hand are completely in tune with their feminine side.  Just look at Beckham for a textbook example. ;-)

No offence Rob, but it doesn't surprise me.

I saw a Scot wearing a Scottish rugby top the day after the Scots beat England a few months ago, he wandered into a pub down here in Maidstone - there were no comments from anyone, and this wasn't the nicest pub in town; I thought at the time, if I were to walk into a pub in Glasgow wearing an England top  the day after we beat the Scots, it would be an entirely different story...

Its a complex subject though, as all the flag-waving and hype that England football supporters seem to get engaged in is just as bad, and then there's the history of the UK...but at the end of the day, some of us have moved on!

Furthermore, I've got stick on a number of occasions for wearing a French football top...I don't get it. Everyone and their aunt seems to wear Brazil shirts, and no-on bats an eyelid..

I'm guessing this was from English people?
(Most Scots are quite fond of the French - "Auld Alliance" and all that...)

Doesn't apply to me anyway.
People are people as far as I'm concerned, be they French, Scottish, English or even American. ;-)

Well, it's population is descended from thieving scum to start with.  It was only a matter of time before the whole island was stolen. ;-)

Only a VERY small part of the population were descended from criminals.

And .. Is it really criminal to be forced by deliberate manipulation of society by upper class twits to steal (food) to feed your starving children ?

Well, It was illegal. But That same upper class society said it was right to lock Joe Ordinary within the hull of the sinking Titanic.

Here's a thing I have personal experience of.

Before my family emigrated to Australia in the early 70's I scored 98 % in history.  I was extremely good at it. When I was tested at an Australian School I scored 2 %.

You see, here in UK you learn ~ Uk & european stuff including THEIR views. In Australia you learn "Aust - Asian" history. That included the reasons for the transportation of so called "criminals"!!

England really does have a shameful past as do most "Empires".

Here's the ironic thing......

There's an awful lot of Poms would rather live in australia then stay in this [insert skanky description here] country.

Fucking cheating argie bastard!!!!!

Why was he allowed to referee a game where one of the countries playing is occupying sovereign territory of his country?

I shall be writing a snotty letter to Sepp Blatter, not that it will make a blind bit of difference.

Come on Brazil!

Congrats to Portugal.

good hard fought - End to end game.

Good stuff.

Typical young hot head Rooney fell for the bait though. When will these young knobs learn to shut their gobs and stay cool ?

Ultimate blame goes to Sven Goren Erickson.

That tit chose to go the tournament with three strikers only.

count.

1 Owen - Out
2 Beckham - injured - subbed
3 Rooney - Red carded (Don't you think the Portugeuse management sussed that out ?)
4 England - Fooked.

So obvious.

Well.... Sven gets his Dosh no matter what !!

Almost certainly. I made three predictions about England's hopes before the tournament started.

1. They will play very unattractive football.
2. They will be knocked out at quarter final stage
3. With all the fuss over Rooney's broken foot, everybody completely ignored the fact that he is a hothead and would probably get sent off at some point.

Of the three, the only thing I didn't get right was that I thought Rooney would walk in an earlier game. Otherwise, as predictable as ever. Roll on Euro 2008 for yet another repeat.

I'm behind France to win (as a kind of underdog) but I think Germany (my second choice) will win, as they deserve it more than the other sides still in the tournament

What a fantastic game.

Felt sorry for Germany but Italy's two goals were crackers and they probably edged it anyway.

Still fancy France to lift the trophy but it'll be close.

From the country that brought you euthanasia, abortion, gay marriage, legal weed and Big Brother comes Hotshots: WK Lingerie (http://www.sbs.nl/modules.php?name=special&site=televisienieuws&sid=4943). During the breaks in between matches, scantily clad babes in tight lingerie will sort-of play a soccer match. Emphasis will be mostly on the bodies of the young waifs, especially when they jump up and down when they score, or bend over when they put down the ball, or just for the fun of it.

I thought we couldn't top the above list. It appears we have.

So, taking into consideration the complete lack of morals and the corruption that is rife throughout Italian football (and Italy as a whole), highlighted recently by the revelations of match fixing by referee's and officials.............

Who reckons that they bought the world cup?

Yes, it is. You are allowed to grow your own for personal use. You are, however, not allowed to grow it commercially and make a buck out of it---unless it happens to be MediWeed which is a complete and utter commercial failure.

5/10 for Zidane's Geordie Kiss. He showed passion but was lacking in technical skill. Given the height of his opponent, he should have leapt vertically before bringing his forehead to bear square on the nose.
Butting someone in the chin only hurts you more ;-)
