Title: WWW Browser Recommendation
Post by: irishmike on June 09, 2006, 12:21:09 AM
Hello:

Looking for a WWW Browser for my Amiga.  This is my infamous A1200 with OS 3.0 and Magic WB 2.1.

Please include links to the browser where applicable.

Also, have seen screenshots with a clock in the right hand corner of WB menu bar... anyone tell me how to get that?  Is that a newer OS thing or an addon?

Thanks,

- IBrowse 2.3 (http://amiga.iospirit.de/index.php?mode=products&modmode=info&product_id=7) (Commercial, Click Try-button to download the demo version)

- AWeb (http://aweb.sunsite.dk/) (Free)

downloaded Aweb.  Seems to be fine.  Now just need more resolution on the Miggie :-)  Browsing is not much fun on 640x 200 :-)

Thanks for the recommendation :-)

For the clock thing, you could take a look at this (http://de5.aminet.net/dev/basic/mclk32BB.readme) - though I've not tried it personally.

What do you have for a monitor? I was running at 800x600 with my 1942.

Browsing on any classic Amiga is rather, eh, painfull to say the least. I use Aweb on my 68060 powered A1200. The resolution and quality of the picture is fine by me (thanks to the internal flickerfixer I use), but it is dogslow and not to recommend for your average browsing needs.

Don't understand me wrong, I love my A1200 and it is still a very usable machine, but it is simply not up to the task of browsing the currentday web in a decent way.

I still do. I used to use an NEC Mutisync 3D that also worked quite well at 800x600 - but that on my A2000 now running 1280x1024 (I need a bigger screen though!)

The point is -> Irishmike - here are two solutions. I still see the NEC 3D monitors around here at flea markets, HAM fests and computer fests for $25 to $50. The 3D will sync from 15KHz to 38KHz.
