Title: What basic apps should I look for?
Post by: Gojirax on June 04, 2006, 07:27:47 AM
Ok, I made one thread asking for advice on OS 3.5 versus 3.9.

After I solve that riddle, what are the basic bread and butter apps I'm looking for? I'll give a brief description of what I'm looking for in a computing experience.

- Mod Player
- Mod Tracker (Looks like Octamed SS is still the king?)
- MP3 Player
- Video player (AVI/Mpeg etc)
- CD Player
- Web Browser
- Word Processor (Final Writer was the last one I used)
- Networking (It would be awesome if I could print to a Microsoft Peer to Peer printer, but no biggie)
- TCP/IP Stack (That's built in to 3.5 and 3.9 right?)
- Directory Manager (Dopus Magellan was the king last time I saw)
- Video games (Anything been produced in the last 5 years that's not PPC and is noteworthy?)
- Graphics/Sound Demos (I used to live for that stuff.)
- MSN/Yahoo Messenger client.

Anyway, just some regular dinking around is what I'm into.

If you have any favorites, or consider yourself up to speed I'd sure appreciate your input and thoughts.

Thanks!
Jack / Gojira

Hi,

For the programs, you may like to search the previous forum threads, as this has been discussed quite a bit before.

For mpeg playing, you may like to get additional hardware decoders.  Amiga's are a bit long in the tooth to do this stuff comfortably.  You can try a search for mpeg at the bbah (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/).  I think there are a few solutions around for audio and video hardware decoders, though I guess they won't handle the more recent video formats.

Good luck
