It should work, but if the games use any buttons other than Red and Blue, you probably won't get too far in them.

Lots of games needs also other buttons, but some are playable just with a stick.
Go for it!

You could also get a sega megadrive controller i think, which should be fairly easy to get hold of. I believe alot of games support the buttons on it, but i am not 100% sure there.

For a while I was without a CD32 controller and I found some games work fine without it. Things like superfrog where u only need one button.
However some games I couldnt do anything without a CD32 controller. Darkseed was one of these. The cursor wouldnt move at all no matter what i tried. Not even using mouse helped

It is possible to use normal joysticks with some games but a lot use the extra buttons on the CD32 pad.
If you need a new official Amiga CD32 pad (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=323) we have them in stock.

Yeah a joystick will work for most CD32 games.
Also, you can use the CD32 controller on any Amiga game that requires a joystick. Just simply use the d-pad for the directions instead of the joystick, and the red button in place of the fire button. I find this is just great for platform games, especially as I have become so accustomed to using pads now that I actually hate using joysticks!
(I played pretty much all my Spectrum games using a joystick back in the early 90's)
