Title: NES Emulator..
Post by: Leifern on May 31, 2006, 05:53:18 PM
Hi,

I've installed CoolNESs but im having som problems with the graphics. Sometimes the graphics just come up as colored letters, and sometimes the letters come up ass strange unreadable symbols. I've tested it with many ROM's but the problem seems to be consistant.
Anybody have an idea..?

Also, i wasn't really impressed with the speed. Is this REALLY the fastest NES emulator for the Amiga?

Tried ANes?

I've tried A/nes now, and it works better.. However Anes is faster then AnesCgfx with my PIV.. Wierd..

But the graphics are still messed up in most games. The only one i've tried this far that works ok is Megaman 1.

There are letters all over the screen.. Could this be some config's i just need to get right, or could all these games be unsupported by the Emu..??

Well, to my memory both CoolNESs and A/NES have both been ceased in their development.  I think that CoolNESs may have its source code available, but I know that the A/NES author said he wasn't putting the code out for his emulator.  Hopefully someday I can learn how to program and see about picking up the CoolNESs project.  Would there be any possible way to use a light gun wtih an Amiga for proper gun support, and would a 4-player adapter be usable with the CD32 pads (or maybe a modified Genesis/MegaDrive pad)?

CoolNESs is the fastest NES emulator for the Amiga, it is also the least compatible because it gets most of its speed by taking shortcuts in the emulation. Most games do not run properly on CoolNESs.

A/NES has a bit better compatibility, but still has a lot of problems with graphics and some mappers, and is slower than CoolNESs.

DarkNES is a bit slower than A/NES but has much better compatibility than both A/NES and CoolNESs.

A/NES development has recently started again, the AGA version only though, I think.

If I ever get back into programming on my Amiga, I'll probably release a new version of DarkNES, and finally release my VIC-20 emulator.

That would be rather cool, Mongo.  We could use some emulation for the venerable Amiga.  Shame MagiC64 no longer has a website or a full and free version.
