Is there some trick to jousting on Defender of the crown? The only ting I can hit is the horse.

I never managed to win in that damn scene. :-x

At least on the C=64 version, what I would do is to time the bounce of the pole just right. It was many years ago that I played it, but I was pretty good and hardly ever lost. I probably can't explain it any better that that because you'll probably figure it out with practice anyway. You have to hit the shield, if that helps any.
Hmmm.. how about this. Try aiming high and when the dude comes close enough, hit the button while the pole it dropping. That's the best I can get my brain to think.

DOTC... I loved that game. It depends on who you play to an extent, but I remember there was always a spot I'd aim at on the screen with the joust and I'd usually do ok at it. Unfortunately the disk drive on my amiga doesn't work anymore so i can't exactly load it up and tell you what part of the screen I was actually aiming at.
My advice is just to avoid jousting, because majority of the time your bound to lose.
Wow, that was a pretty worthless post.
