Title: *Early* Word Processor, free in CT
Post by: Floid on May 26, 2006, 09:09:00 PM
thetered's post reminds me...

I've got an A.B. Dick Magna II in the garage that really needs to leave within a month.  It's an impressive monster of early or pre-PC technology, consisting of a very heavy full-tower type case and a custom teletype unit with a small LED matrix display.  Magnetic card storage (bare punchard-size bits of 'floppy' material) was used, and part of the heft is devoted to the vacuum pump used to suck them in and out of the unit.

Its twin seems to have already met the dump while I wasn't looking, and unfortunately I think all the manuals and rare media went with it.

Pickup in Ridgefield, CT, 06877; reply, e-mail, or PM if you're interested.

Good luck on finding it a home - would be a shame to see a bit of history consigned to the dump...

I'm saddened by the dump meeting of that stuff. :-(

You might want to look at http://www.old-computers.com.

They've got a rather large list of collectors, and you can somehow send an email to the mailing list.  I don't really know how, but I'm starting to get that 1:30 in the morning haze.

I would take it myself but I'm broke, out of space, and far south.

Would be a shame to see an old thing like that just go to scrap.
