Hi, i found a good offer for a Blizzard PPC, 250 EUR for a PPC 060/50mhz, 603e/266Mhz (Overclocked) + SCSI + 128 simm EDO. But the seller don't give me confidence. On the first message i received this specifications:
Blizzard PPC 060/80Mhz (Overclocked), 603e/266Mhz + SCSI + 128 simm
I asked about if it can be restored to original mhz, and if the 060 was socketed or soldered, i received a message from seller saying that it can be restored, but it was soldered, for this reason i rejected it, because if the 060 have a problem it can't be changed on a easy way.
Then i received a message, and all the specifications was changed, the seller said that he was wrong, the blizzard was not overclocked, and the 060 was socketed, it was very strange, when i said that i'm not interested then i received the message changing the specifications.
But this is not the last change of specifications, three days ago i received another message, "the ppc acelerator is not overclocked. The 060 is 50 mhz from factory, the ppc cpu 603e 266 mhz + scsi is the one that was overclocked from 200 to 266mhz."
I think that is a interesting offer, this ppc card is sold on some shops for 500 EUR, but i don't know very well what i'm buying, what do you think?
-
First thing I would ask is detailed pictures of the item.
-
if the card works, the price is good. (totally unuseful to ask him if it works)
btw...i'm not aware of any BPPC with a socketed 040/060.
No risk, no fun ;-)
-
Ask him if it's a rev0 or a rev2 !!
-
I bet it's that ad from Amibench. :-)
It sounds fishy to me. Detailed pictures would certainly help.
p.s. there were BPPC cards with socketed 68k cpus. Very few were made by Phase 5, and I think that all DCE models have socketed 68060 (not sure if DCE ever made a 68040 model).

This doesn't really matter, unless he'd want to be sure that he could use the Grex1200 PCI busboard. :-)

Hi,
Wow.. Is this still going.. I think i've bought this BPPC, but now im getting nervous. The guy lives in Portugal..!?
I ask all sorts of questions, but never asked for a picture. He wanted 200EUR for it.. I just thought "Why not.." and payed for it.
He sent the card e few days ago, but due to a strike in the Portugese post office (http://jn.sapo.pt/2006/05/23/economia_e_trabalho/greve_quatro_dias_fara_duplicar_cart.html) he said it would take a bit longer.
I thought it sounded like a good deal... A little wierd, but good. But now it sounds like i've thrown 200EUR out the window.. :cry:

@Leifern
Dont want to alarm you, but check this:
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=20949&highlight=luis
I actually wanted to buy a blizz060 he was selling, but smelled fishy since he only wanted 100E for it and refused to send me any photos. It seems that this is the same Luis5150 but had @spymac.com address back then. (changed it now to @gmail.com). Seems like the same guy...

Yeah.. Would seem like the same guy.. Looks like i'll never see that PPC or my money ever again!
Damn.. This really pisses me off! I was looking foreward to getting my Amiga powered up!

Hi, i received a message yesterday from this guy (the guy i talk is also portuguese), and the blizzard was not sold, and he add again the sale to amibench, and the 060 of PPC blizzard have 80mhz again, when he said yesterday that it was 50mhz from factory, i will reject the offer, it don't smell nice, there are something strange...

I have news from the guy that sell the ppc, first i asked for photos, he sent me an email saying that this is not problem, that he will send later, but some hours later i received a message, the ppc was sold. I can't understand this guy, he don't know what is selling, it changes the specifications in every message...

@Leifern
Any news about the Blizzard PPC? Has it arrived? Any contact from the seller?
According to THIS (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=16018&forum=1#236970) topic on AW.net the seller may be among us as a member of this site.
I hope the board turns up for you, please let us know so that we know whether or not this seller can be trusted.

I'm sorry I found this thread too late. I always tell every one that if your're the least bit nervous about a seller, run away. I hope with PowerVixen boards on the horizon, these 060/PPC scammers will disapear as we get some new hardware.
strike in the Portugese post office
I seem to recall that same line being used by a scammer in another deal, except they claimed a strike in the customs office. I hope you get the card, but it look dodgy at this point.

Hi,
No, no news.. I've read the thread on AW, and it's the same guy. Same contact info that i was given. What do we do about something like this? Not ONE of the people who has bought anything from him has gotten what they ordered. This is crazy! I wish i wasn't as naive as i am, mabey i would have investigated a little before sending the money. I've got all the information on this guy that one can possibly need to do something. Is there noone to contact about it?
However. It's only been a week since he "sent" the package. And as always i'll chose to think that it's not a scam, and that i'll get what i've payed for..
But if it doesn't arrive my summer will be spent in Lisbon, Portugal. And im not joking! :angry:

@Leifern,
I'm not sure how it'd work where you are, but here I'd start by talking to my local police. They, in turn, would refer me to the appropriate place. Since it's across borders, there might not be much that can be done. Then again ... look up that old thread on here about Bert Binder (sp?), another scam, and read how that person went about handling the situation. It's at least worth a try. And you've learned the hard way for the future. Sorry.
