The BBoAH says that some kind of timing problem breaks compatibility with most IDE drives. Sure enough, I tried three different brands without success (although it does work with the 80MB drive that came with it). Any fix for this or is it just something to be avoided?

Hi DamageX,
I have heard somewhere that the drive interface is 8bit I/O instead of 16bit. I don't know if modern drives are back compatible.
I have one of these boards myself I think the earlyest version so I wouldn't mind getting a IDE drive working too.
BTW do you have more than 8 meg working on your board and does it need some special memory? Cause I pulled off some mem from my GVP combo 30pin Fast Page RAM put it in and it shows it up in workbench and you can copy stuff to the ram disk until it's full but the BBoAH said it uses special Nibble Mode Ram or something.
Also I have a 68030 and 68882 with 50 written on them however when I put a 50 Mhz Oscillator in no boot. It current runs at 25Mhz. Do you know if it's possible to run the board at 50Mhz or is the circuity not fast enough?
Regards
John

Hello,
i have the same card (Rev. 4). There are no Bootroms and the card doesn´t work.
Does´s anybody know where I can get the Bootrom-Codes (bin-files) and what EEproms I´ll need ???
Thank you
Jochen

http://babel.org/amiga/ has some utilities and ROM images
for this card
My card is running at 50MHz so it's possible at least. Have
you tried any speeds between 25 and 50? or different jumper
settings maybe?
I guess there are two different RAM boards, I have the one
which takes 64-pin GVP SIMMs and it can go up to 32MB.

Ok. What Epromversion will I need ???
Yesterday I testet Eproms from the A2630 on the upper places and the card worked - but I have no IDE-Port :boohoo:
The card is running at 50Mhz too..but only 8MB Ram.

Thank you kindly for the information DamageX, Iopower.
I've pretty sure the technician tried 33Mhz and it didn't work
however I hope to try using the motherboard master oscillator one of these days just for kicks (28Mhz).
I must admit we didn't have much info on the jumpers I think he managed to get the board to register 8 MB. I read somewhere it supposed to go upto 12 Meg on the early version.

Hi,
only this site is my information about the card (Rev. 7), but I have Rev 4. I have testet the jumpers and I think they are equally.

I don´t know why my IDE Port doesn´t work. The card is terrible.

Hi,
I had an A3001 @ 25 MHz in the past and I managed to re-write the IDE driver of the board.
Mine had ATAPI CD-ROM support :-).
I also remember that the original driver only supports CHS addressing (540 MB max) and that the A3001 was not compatible with the LS-120 drive.
I have to dig into my CD-ROMs to see if I have an archive somewhere...
Regards,
Frederic

Hi,
have you looked for the archive  ?
Does anybody in this Universe know, what Eproms I need ?
This year the card should be working... :-(

The page with the jumper settings seems to indicate that u34 is the boot ROM for the IDE. Here's the dump http://www.hyakushiki.net/junk/gvp-u34 it's a 27256. I don't know what the other ROMs are for (fastkick??)
