Does anyone know where I can get a genuine copy of Crossdos 7 please ?

You don't need it. Is part of workbench (3.0 or later)
When you put pc disk to your drive it recognized it as PC0:,PC1:,ect. :-)

use fat95 instead cause got more features and is freeware
get it on aminet
also I recommend MountDOS from aminet as well used in conjuntion with fat95

Do need it as I want the long filenames to remain instead of the 8.3 format that the original crossdos is limited to.

Does fat 95 support long filenames, I guess it does from the "95" as in Windows 95.

Yes, Fat95 supports long filenames. Since Fat95 there is absolutely no reason to even think about CrossDos anymore.

Cross DOS 7 was NEVER included in the OS. There is a big difference in the OS supplied version, and the aftermarket package anyway.

While FAT95 will allow the long file names, Cross DOS 7 is a more elegant solution (IF you can find a copy).

Cross Dos 7 (Gold Edition) was the last version released by the company before they discontinued support for the AMIGA.  They are the same company who released Cross MAC.

There is a VERY big difference between Cross Dos on WB3.x and the standalone 7 version.

Copies turn up from time to time on eBay.

CrossDOS was published by the now famous Len Poma of Consultron Inc. originally in Plymouth Michigan. A town nearby to me.. I haven't seen Len in a few years. He was a member and former president of our Amiga users group.

Software Hut still sells CrossDOS 7 (www.softhut.com).. It and CrossMAC still are very useful utilities today. 7 included a lot of file format conversion.

Can anyone give a comparison of CD7 with fat95 + MountDos?  I still just use the CrossDos from OS3.1 (I'm pretty lazy updating things).

actually XFS from aminet is probably simply the BEST! (as someone kind from this forum informed me)

err. no; but XFS has so many more options than other two, it can read/write MANY MANY different formats and, unlike PC0: , it does work with modified floppy drives that lack RDY signal.
just read the docs.

it even does adf, similar like fmsdisk.device does.

AND it works on KS1.3!!! you'd need a really old version of crossdos for that..

Precisely.
The "standard" CrossDoss came with the Workbench from version WB 2.0 (or was it v2.1?) onwards.
