Title: New Mr Beanbag demo
Post by: Tricky on May 21, 2006, 04:05:06 PM
We've uploaded a new version of the Mr Beanbag playable demo on our website now.  People were mentioing the look-ahead camera system making it hard to see where you would land, so I've adjusted that a bit.  I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who found that a problem, when they try the new version.

Also this update has already made it to amiga-news.de!  Someone there mentions it doesn't work on his A4000 (also not on A2000 but that's no surprise!) so if anyone else here has a A4000 they can try it out on for me, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

Please tell me what it does, if anything.  I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work.  If you have a picasso can it still display AGA modes?

@oddmario:

hmm that's interesting.  try putting workbench down to an ordinary AGA mode such as 640x256, 8 colours, then try running the demo again.

That worked.
Strange though since most of the games just opens in a new screen.

@oddmario

aha, that's it then!  i need to do a bit more work to take the graphics card into account.  not having one myself I never thought about it!

Most games don't open their own workbench screen, but bypass workbench entirely and hit the hardware directly.  It looks like I've got to hit it again to tell it to go into normal AGA mode.

Thanks for that anyway, it was very helpful!

Incredible Tricky! it starts/works even from MorphOS for PowerUP on A4000/CSPPC+060. :-)

Ok I have now uploaded the demo LHA again, this time featuring a call to good old "close workbench" at the start.  Hopefully that should make it work on A4000s with graphics cards.  Someone please tell me if it does or not!

@ Framiga:

Thanks for trying it out on your machine, I'm glad it works fine.  Although I knew it works on a 060 because that's what I've got!

I'm not 100% sure that is using the 060 at all.

From the themperature sensor on the PowerPC, it "seems" using the MOS 68K emulation.

It also works perfectly on my unexpanded CD32. I can't wait for the finished game, I'll buy it for sure!

Great game, I hope it is finished soon. It runs very well on E-UAE.
One thing it could do with is a pause button, other than that it seems nicely polished.
