Can anyone help me with setting up a CD-ROM? I'm totally new to the amiga OS. I'm using a GVP SCSI interface that connects to my accelerator. The driver seems to be there, as it is looking for something on ID 3 when the OS comes up.
I'm using AmigaOS 3.9, if that matters.
Any help or a mini-walkthrough would be appreciated!

Hmmm, sounds like you're getting a message saying "cannot open gvpscsi.device unit 3", right?

yep. exactly.

Can you post the contents of the CD mountlist in DEVS:Dosdrivers? Also, what SCSI ID is your CD-ROM set to?

Well, I figured out what was causing "cannot open gvpscsi.device unit 3" - something called "EMERGENCY_CD" was in the DosDrivers folder. I accidentally clicked on it and it gave me that error, so I removed it (just moved it out of the folder), and I no longer get that error on boot.
Now, I downloaded and reinstalled the GVP SCSI software which seemed to be mostly missing from the system before.
You know, I have nothing attached to unit 3, should I just set it to unit 3 and see what happens?
Also, bizarreness: There is something called KingCON-mountlist in DEVS:DosDrivers/ but no "mountlist". I cannot find KingCON anywhere else on the system.
This thing seems messed up. I would have just wiped it out and loaded 3.9 fresh, but alas, I couldn't get the CD drive to work :p

KingCON is a Shell replacement. Don't worry, it's nothing to do with your CD-ROM.
What SCSI unit is your CD-ROM on? And do you have any mountlists in DEVS:Dosdrivers?

for the KingCON to work ok you must have the KingCON-handler in L directory.

Heh, I still need some help with this, though it will show my AmigaOS 3.9 CD when I boot up now.
Is there a better CD-ROM driver than the EMERGENCY_CD file that OS 3.9 installs? I was hoping for something that will show the CD on the desktop when you insert it.

but it does if you have create the emergency cd drive correctly. and is not a matter of a ''better driver'' it's depent on the .device and the cd filesystem that the driver uses. for example i use cachecdfs and scsi.device for years with absolutly no problem with data or/and audio cds.

So this is a software problem then? I have a hard time understanding why emergency_cd will detect the AmigaOS cd, but not ejections or any other CDs.
Maybe I need to update gvpscsi.device?

Hi FireflyST.
A good rule of thumb in dealing with CD drives, is, make sure that the SCSI # on the CDdrive match the Unit # on your CD0 icon and CacheCDFS
You'll find CD0 in your DEVS/DosDrivers drawer, click once on the icon and choose info in the menu and it'll list the unit #, so make sure it's the same as your CD drive.
Maybe that'll help :-)
