Is this an Amiga?......as in from the Amiga inc??
anybody have any clue as to what this is and can this run os 4? and does it have hardware support?
thanks click here for the linkx1200 (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/bundles/extreme1200.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/bundles/aosxl_bundle2.html&h=100&w=268&sz=16&tbnid=TOIn-On-1TJU1M:&tbnh=40&tbnw=108&hl=en&start=18&prev=/images%3Fq%3Damiga%2B1800%26svnum%3D10%26complete%3D1%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN)

It will most certainly not run OS4, and I doubt it is a machine licensed by Amiga Inc, but don't know that for sure.
-
Nope it's not, just a generic x86 machine in a zero footprint case with AmigaOS runnning in emulation on it.
Also please fix your posting. The link fcuks up the entire page layout.
-
No it is not.. The machine itself is a standard intel pc.
The only thing that is similar is the looks... It wont run any AmigaOS at all, with the exception of under emulation.
The company that announced these seems to be gone as well..
anybody have any clue as to what this is and can this run os 4? and does it have hardware support?
The only computer capable of running OS4 as it is now, is the AmigaONE. There are 2 more that might run OS4 if they are released.. The amy05 from troika and the ack.

OOPS sorry dude , new to the forum, will keep that in mind in the future .....or can we edit the post now?

@Odin, is it nessisary to use that sort of language? its an honist mistake.
Cynkronyze, yes you can edit the link. to post a link properly when in the reply/post screen there is a button located above the "SIZE" window that looks like a link in a chain, select that and paste the link you have in there and enter the one or two word text that you want to display like This (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/bundles/extreme1200.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/bundles/aosxl_bundle2.html&h=100&w=268&sz=16&tbnid=TOIn-On-1TJU1M:&tbnh=40&tbnw=108&hl=en&start=18&prev=/images%3Fq%3Damiga%2B1800%26svnum%3D10%26complete%3D1%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN)

You could be a bit nicer considering he is new to amiga.org.
I personally think this problem is a flaw that should be fixed in xoops anyways.

{bleep} it this stinks!!!

Huh? The fcuk-bit you mean? It wasn't my intention to sound rude or aggressive.

hey chill (as the great sylvester the cat said sticks and stones may break my bones butwords can never hurt me...except if the words were...YOU ARE FIRED !!!!)
and thanks guys
some more questions .......
1)if get my hands. on a PowerPC 603e @ 160-240 MHz ,is it advisable to install it in the trap door expansion slot??? and will there be space to attach a fast memory and a graphics card in the same space . I always loved the idea of a keyboard+processor+memory+media drives all in one unit..i was thinking of rippng out the cooling fan of my old laptop and putting it into the miggy
2)is the shark hardware acelerator better than the power pc?
3)is there a USB edvice availible for the miggy 1200?
thanks guys

Some people do have desktop A1200 with PowerPC card and BVision 3D graphics card but it gets very hot in there so it may become instable.
2)is the shark hardware acelerator better than the power pc?
The Shark Accelerator is PowerPC - it's a G3/G4 Accelerator card for the Mac made by Sonnet which Elbox rebranded. If you mean is it better than the BlizzardPPC then yes, theoretically, it is faster. Except the SharkPPC was never released.
3)is there a USB edvice availible for the miggy 1200?
Yes there are a few - if you have a Mediator (PCI busboard) you can use the Spider USB, or if you want to leave your A1200 in the desktop case you can use the Subway.
-
Yes, it's possible to install a BPPC in the trapdoor slot, there is not many other places to install it. The BPPC has a slot for installing a BVisionPPC graphics card, and the BPPC can take 256 MB ram.
The only problem is heat and power issues, as airflow can be difficult to optain in a desktop A1200.
The Shark will most likely never be available, and you need a tower Amiga for that anyway.
As for USB, there is a Subway USB.

I am not sure about this, but i think it will be hard to fit it while at the same time keeping the casing on. I know you can fit a 68k accelrator easily, but i think it will be problematic for a ppc one.
2)is the shark hardware acelerator better than the power pc?
The announced specs are indeed a whole lot better, but it has not been released yet and who knows if it will ever materialize.
3)is there a USB edvice availible for the miggy 1200?
Amigakit sells USB controllers: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/ (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/)
But anyways, if you want to run OS4, then i suggest you wait a bit until it has been released for real, so that you know it will work with your said ppc accelrator. And who knows, maybe a cheaper and much better ppc card/box has been released by then. The only one who have a classic a1200 with OS4 is some very few beta testers. So right now, the only platform supporting OS4 for end users is the AmigaONE. So if you want OS4 now, then you will to buy an AmigaONE by second hand.

WOW!!!! THANKS GUYS !!! extremeley fast replies...fast than my internet connection anyway.lol.....
oh i forgot one last question with the BPPC and the 3d card can we run teh os 4 on the A1200?
thanks a million

oh i forgot one last question with the BPPC and the 3d card can we run teh os 4 on the A1200?
Not for us regular mortals no. As i said in my previous post, it seems like OS4 for the a1200 is only avaliable for a few selected beta testers :-( It does run fine on it, just not released yet for us regular peeps.
Hyperion say it will be released for the classic once the final version of OS4 is released.
-
Technically you can run OS4 on an BPCC+BVision but the problem is that only beta-testers can get their hands on OS4, it's not released yet. Nor does it look like it will be released anytime soon :(.
I sold my BlizPPC because I got tired waiting for a proper OS for it. I decided 68k only was more fun than waiting for the next gen Amiga(OS) to come round Real Soon Now =).
-
hmmm :( damn......so that means the next best OS to on it would b the OS 3.9 ? ....hmmm
sorry to bother you guys with questions but i am planning to freiking loose my intel based system and use my Amiga. for the future.
I beleive i can use miggy to surf the internet (right???)with the right tcp/ip stack, listen to music with appropriate hardware,do a lot of art work on it..........well thats all i want the computer for......once i am off from work..........
thanks again.
-
Bother? Questions are a great deal why there are things like a.org =).
You can use the internet on a miggy yes. Be aware that the browsers are prehistoric and without extra graphics hardware it will be dogslow in 256 colours max. on an A1200 or A4000. A high end 68k (040 or 060) would also be needed to make it remotely comfortable.
If by listening music you mean MP3s, well, that is possible with 68k but anything below a 060 and it hogs up the CPU. There is however extra addon hardware available (MASPlayer) which hooks to the parallel port and takes the decoding load off the CPU. There are ofcourse also a gazillion mod files available which doesnt take alot of CPU oomph to play.
And there are plenty of art packages available indeed.
-
About the "X1200", I did not hear about it, but of some others based on the first generation of AMD Athlon 500/600Mhz using QNX+Amithlon in late 1999.

Have you ever tried to do it with an Amiga browser? It doesn't work here. Maybe you or someone else could post the html code for this.

THANKS DUDE YOU RULE!!!!......heres another aimed at you and the others is the blizzard 1260 and the blizzard ppc different? what is the best and the most powerful acceraltor card availible for the miggy where in i can add colossal ram to it...i am planning on a huge budget so hit me..............
-
is the blizzard 1260 and the blizzard ppc different?
1260 has 68060. 1260 has 1 SIMM slot, but adding SCSIKit gives you 2nd slot (and SCSI-II obviously). 1260 has no privision for graphics card (it's possible to add one, but you need PCI busboard or some other extra expansion).
BPPC has PowerPC cpu and m68k cpu. Various configurations exist, from slower 603 and 040 combinarions to 240MHz 603 and 50MHz 68060. BPPC can also have SCSI-II controller, but it can't be added later on (so if you need SCSI you must get model with it). All BPPC have two SIMM slots, and possibility to connect BVision graphics card, or GRex PCI-busboard.
what is the best and the most powerful acceraltor card availible
The best card for A1200: Blizzard PPC (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=154) 603 240MHz with 68060 50MHz and SCSI-2, with BVision (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=462) graphics card (it plugs to the BPPC). You can have 2 x 128MB 72pin SIMMs to it, totalling 256MB memory.
I had this setup, but my Pegasos II G4@1GHz replaced it.
Frankly, even this fastest possible BPPC isn't that impressive these days.
-
HI,
thanks for the reply can you tell me how much will the 240MHz 603 and 50MHz 68060. BPPC and the BVision graphics card cost and where can i get it? any online store?
is this the best graphics card availible?
thanks
-
The BPPC configuration you described is the best you can get for an A1200 currently. You can only get them second hand since Phase 5 went out of business several years after Commodore went out of business.
There is another PPC accelerator for the A1200 in the works from ACK Software Controls that will run AmigaOS 4 called the PowerVixxen LT but it isn't in production yet. For more information about it there is a log from an IRC chat with its designer here (http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3097).
