So, a new eurovision is at hand. I know many on this board probably don't give a damn about it, but I find it somewhat funny to watch all the political sh*t going on behind the scenes. And some contesters are hilariously funny. Unfortunately I won't be able to watch it live this time cause I'm in Japan (I think they should have and Asiavision in Asia. Japan will be the last every year !). So what you think about this year's competition and your country's artist ?
-
Siouxsie'll be watching it and she's going to give me a shout when Lordi come on :-D
Other than that I really don't care. I usually avoid it if possible, but I'll make a 10 minute exception this year.
-
Lordi?
-
eurovision cracks me up i have to watch it, last years bbc three aftershow show was hilariously shambolic
-
I'm obliged to watch it this year. Someone's organising a Euroviscious party here saturday evening, I'm sure a bottle of whiskey will make it fun!
-
As long as Terry Wogan is providing some wholly inappropriate commentary, I for one will tune in. ;-)
-
It's great isn't it? Blair comes to power, Britain wins (with an American band). Next year, Israel is back at the peace conference table so an Israeli transsexual wins. Upcoming orange revolution in Ukraine? Yep, Ukraine wins. If there is any controversy in Europe then Ireland or Sweden (both neutral) win.
But the politics will always play second fiddle to the outrageous costumes, the awful lyrics, bizarre dances and terrible singing. An outrageous orgy of camp.

Wich then again makes it worthwhile :roflmao:

well, Lordi have got two votes from me, for the semis, I'm afraid!
This band rules (for eurovision's standards of course!)
I kinda see them as a act of retroaction against the demure, yet extremely kitch others!
At least these bunch of monsters are kitch by desicion and they are loving it! Just for the sake of taking the pi$$...
HARD ROCK HALLELUJA!!!!

Yes, Lordi (http://www.lordi.org/). Think GWAR but not as :insane:
Siouxsie was watching the semis on the telly last night, so she voted for them.
And so did I  :-D
Guess I'll be voting on Saturday aswell. If she remembers to shout up when to vote - there's no way I'm watching it :-P
-
GWAR? :-?

Band members like Oderus Urungus, Beefcake the Mighty, Cuttlefish of Cthulhu. Well, ok, Cuttlefish isn't a "band" member, he's Oderus' member.
Bah (http://www.gwar.net/) :-P
Check out the Mythos to see how weird they are.

I think finland could have more luck with Impaled Nazarene (http://www.impnaz.com/goat.html)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impaled_Nazarene
edit : just watched lordi's performance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmZ7xx3mfQg&search=lordi%20eurovision). I congratulate finland for such a brave entry ! which seem to have sparked some tension in Greece ! read more here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lordi).

Back to Lordi: I read an interview with Lordi recently about being labelled a satanist band. After doing the Devil is a Loser single they've got a bit of fan mail from churches congratulating them.
Just goes to show that most people are ignorant as usual

i have to admit, we have our fair share in retarted christ-freaks, here in greece, too!
This kind of ppl tend to speak about the greek tradition combining it with christianism while it is widely accepted that the true greek (or ancient greek, for that matter) tradition is the pagan religion of the past (u know the 12 gods of mount Olympus, and so on).

I'm voting Lordi, though I do have this horrble feeling, saying that Carola will win again. :-P

You can hear it live, if you want. :-)
I know that Swedish radio is broadcasting the show, and I doubt they're the only ones.
You can tune it in over the web on http://www.sr.se/ (http://www.sr.se/) (click on web-radio and select the channel P3), though I doubt you'll enjoy the Swedish commentarys. :-D

Or watch the official webcast (http://www.eurovision.tv/english/index.htm).

UNBELEIVABLE!
Not only did Finland win, but they did it with Lordi of all artists.
METAL!(http://www.hoffmanamps.com/Forum/yabbfiles/Smilies/headbanging.gif)
-
Only took 40 years :-D
-
HELL YEAH!!!
Lordi won the contest! They got 3 votes from me! Their song is a real kicker! It's like the great 80's heavy metal classics, only with darker vocals. I guess that outcome sends a message...
ps. Seeing their monster singer receiving kisses from Elena Paparizou (last years winner) and then flowers from a litle girl, was HILLARIUS!!!!
-
\m/ !!!!!!!11111!1
I liked how the lead singer accented his northern roots at the end :-D.

I wouldn't have mind if Lithuania had won either :-D.
TBH Norway was very good too :\.
-
*hips* Russia should have won:

I expected I do not have to state that it's alive, but of course I had to know that here on Aorg there are ppl with strange (morbid?) fetishes, so I need to express myself more carefully ;-P

Time for a new site: Fetishes of amiga.org ;-)
