Hello everybody,
I am also a new user of your site. I love in hollanbd close tot the german border.( where you still can find loads of amiga stuff for like 10 euro per amiga 500/600/1200)
I am seventeem years old.
And now to the point why I have made an account here:
I got from a friend of mine a Amiga 2000 who works really good, except I don't remember the commands for loading the hard drive.
Furthermore I see the light of the harddrive isn't lit. does that means there ius no harddrive at all?
Please help me!!!!
I already had a A500 and 600, those did a great job as well.
Please mail me or post your answer. Thanks! :-D

Welcome to Amiga.org!!
It sounds like your machine doesn't have a hard drive installed, or that the hard drive may be bad. Typically an Amiga with a HD will autoboot, not command line needed. You may need to open the case to verify if you have a HD as a start.
-
another thing you can do before opening it up is boot with a Workbench disk and see if a HDD icon appears on the desktop.

Hi Maarten, welcome to the forum.
I can suggest another thing for you to do: buy some 10e Amigas (or accessories) and sell them on ebay
What are your other interests? What do you think you might use the A2000 for?

Welcome to A.O Maarten,
I agree with the above posters it's probably a faulty or altogether missing HD. The Amiga dosent need a large HD and just a note that if you do get one and its larger then 4 gig you will need a patch and even better yet a different file system in order to use the space over 4 gig. (the amiga OS dose not support drives over that size by default) But a 4 gig drive is plenty of space as the OS needs less then 100mb of space.

Welcome to amiga.org :-)
The easiest way would be to open up the amiga and see if the hard drive is there. You also might want to take a look at the battery, as it tends to leak after such a long time and the acid often ends up killing the amiga. You safely remove that battery, as it is only used for keeping the clock afaik. If you really need the clock to keep its time, then you can get a replacement battery for cheap.
I hope you will be happy with your amiga :-)

Well,
about the workbench disk: I had already a A500 and had some ORIGINAL workbenches and amiga extra disks
so I loaded that first. I thought the HD patch would appear too, but it didn't :boohoo:
so I think it hasn't a hard disk. The thing was that I was looking for an amiga with a hd very long. When I bought an A600 with a Disk lamp on it, I thought that was the one. Then happened the same thing as with my new A2000> No HD picture when I've loaded the workbench of an A500 disk.
Is it possible to connect a pc-harddisk onta a A2000 because I have a very old 500mb harddisk which should be enough for the things I want to do with my amiga.
I want to play games on my amiga. Games like The settlers, ( which than has the wonderfull !YEP! sound if you click on attack or something like that.)scroched tanks ( which I'm still looking for), wings of cinamaware, cannon fodder etc.
But the most of the time I play on my ( which you will say it's rubbish) nintendo's. The Amiga is just for fun when some friends come to my place we can play a wonderful soccer game called Goal!
I am not some kind of computer whizz-kid who can connect everything to everything. I am quite satisfied when I know how to deal with the BIOS of a normal PC.
About the selling of amiga's on E-bay: look on this site it is much cheaper: www.marktplaats.nl alright it is dutch but way cheaper I tell you.
Furthermore I indeed do some trading in amiga and nintendo/playstation which earns me some pocket money to provide games for my own collection.
So, that's like a whole story I've typed now. My fingers hurt
I'll watch this topic for new responses.

Hi Maarten,
Welcome to one of the oldest forums for the Amiga :-p
You might want to go to http://www.amiga.nl/ a dutch Amiga forum and ask your questions in Dutch. It's a little bit less visited so don't leave here ;-)

Hey Maarten,
Very nice to see some DUTCH people on this site. I also use www.marktplaats.nl to sell amiga equipment.
If you sent me a mail i might be able to help you with the A2000.
Greetsss Henk

Hi Martin.
Do what the others are suggesting. Unscrew and take the cover off. What you should see, if it's there, is a Zorro 2 card with a HD on it(normally a 2091 card). Any SCSI HD will do, as long as it's below 4 gigabytes.
If there is no card, then you have a floppy run amiga2000. You'll have to find one somehow.

A pc HD will work just fine, but it must be a SCSI one with the right interface. I am sure you find cheap ones on ebay or similar.
The easiest way is probably to just get an amiga that comes already with a HD.. Like and a1200hd, a3000 or a4000. The a1200 and a4000 also support aga, which makes them a great gaming machine when bundled with a HD and some software like whdload.

Mkay,
how can I upload photo's? I have some of my a2000 inside.
And yes, I'm sorry tha I wasn't active here lately because I seriously need to pass my exams.
Furthermore, my A600 has crashed somehow? If I turn it on the only thing I see happening is that every light goes on. Even caps lock's green light. So I think it is running stuck on something. I already had taken all the dust out of it. Everythin was fine inside according to me....Don't know how this could happen. I moved it just for only 30 centimeters or something like that :boohoo:
Someone?
