Hi guys,
I am moving home and having to sell all my Amiga hardware. I already had to give away and throw away all my amiga games and spectrum games I had saved since childhood when I moved out of my parents house all that time ago, and now having to do the same thing again but with the hardware I tried so hard to cling on to.
After I have sold all my Amigas, How do I get to play Amiga games and use amiga software? SHould I keep the mini-ITX amiga or just sell it all and probably get buy a standard size ATX amiga on ebay?
Is PC software emulation a solution? Please help, I still need to play. I tried the PC dos version of games, such as Speedball and Stunt Car Racer, but it just didnt feel right. Even Monkey Island felt dirty.

Why is moving a criteria for tossing amiga stuff. Just load it in the trunk and take it to where you are moving. Unless you are crossing oceans it could be fairly expensive.

As Doopie, I would like to know why you have to sell ? if you change of place, it's supposed to be for a better one ... and don't forget that you can put a ton of good things in box under your bed !! :-D

I hope you dont mean "throw away all amiga games in the the litterary sense" :-(

I Agree with the above, Dont get rid of your Amiga. At least keep one If you have a 4000 or a 1200 you can get a tower case for them and it dosent take up alot of space and are still very upgradeable.
The only other choice is to get Amiga Forever on the PC and run amiga games that way but like you said its not the same feel.

Never sell!
And never let carting stuff across oceans be a problem!
I insisted on taking my Amiga stuff and other 8/16/32 bit computers and associated peripherals (or junk, depending on your perspective!) from the UK to NZ - and you can't get much further to travel than that!
Emulation is all well and good, but there are times when you'll need a fix of real hardware!!!

I almost sold all my Amiga stuff about 2 years ago, I realised this would be a big big mistake, so never did sell any of it.
You will deeply regret it if you do.
If it realy comes to it, and you have a decent PC at hand then use some thing like AmiKit.
Its gota be better than no Amiga at all.

Just to be contrary, I'll say selling off old Amiga stuff and shifting to emulation has its positives.
If your real hardware spends a lot of time in storage and the urge to use it is rare, (less than once a year) then emulation is the most convienient way of having an Amiga around. WinUAE is capable more configurations and better spec's and compatability than my real 1Meg-A500 and A1200/030@40.
WinUAE gets used way more often now than my real hardware did 3 years ago when I had it sitting in the closet, its just easier and faster to get going. I'm happy that an Amiga newbie bought my old stuff and gets to explore the scene fresh, rather than it sit unused in storage for 10 years just because of sentiment.
The downside is real hardware is (a small) part of the fun. I dont regret selling my gear but I still have a passing interest in the hardware. Out of curiosity, I'd probably own an Amiga again if the price was right (like free), maybe just the unfamiliar models like the A600, A4000 and CDTV.

I went back to the Amiga to create music in Bars&Pipes and thought it would be a great idea to just run WinUAE. Speed and memory was of course not a problem; my AMD2800+ was the fastest "Amiga" I had ever seen. The problem was the MIDI-interface. Although WinUAE supports MIDI, it turned out to miss some data from my MIDI-keyboard. It missed "key up", so notes got stuck.
The only solution for me was to get an Amiga 1200 with harddrive, ethernet, VGA-adapter, MIDI-interface, and turbocard (68030@50). This solution has no problems with missing data. I'm using my SVGA-screen, so the whole setup does not take much space.

I say keep at least some of it.
I make sure to keep my computer stuff, if nothing else !!
I've managed to retain all my spectrum stuff (and ZX81s !) through university, and moving across from Notts. to W.Mids, and I didnt have a car in those days !
nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.
I currently have an AmigaOne, but have kept both A1200s even though one is a bit flaky - I just bought an Amiga RGB -> VGA adapter to use it on my A1's monitor, since AmiTV stopped working.

I totally agree. My wife doesn't like my Amiga gear, but she would never make me sell it because she knows it is important to me. My only regret so far was trading my A3000 for the A1200, though the 1200 is a fine machine... it does fit nicely on my desk with my PC!
I would not sell my equipment if I were you! You will find yourself spending a whole lot of money replacing it later.. that is just my opinion, but if I had all that original stuff, I would fight to hold on to it.

I am moving to the mediteranean from the UK. I think the CD32s and the A1200s will have to get sold but will keep the new Amiga. Or the otherway round, still not too sure.

Moved from US to Europe 6 months ago, loaded my A1200 and CD32 into seacontainer along with furniture and cars and the rest of our stuff, never considered throwing anything Amiga related away:)

Yep! If you've got a container booked anyway, you might as well use it!
That's what I did, brought three PCs, an A1200, A600, A500, A1000, Atari ST, Sinclair QL, several Spectrums, BBC, Archimedes, ZX81, ZX80 and lots of other computer-related "junk" all the way from the UK to New Zealand.
There was no way I was going to sell or give away any of it!
And I'm pleased to report there were no casualties - everything survived the journey and still works well.

Whatever you do........DO NOT throw anything away Amiga related. If worse comes to worse.sell it really cheap to get rid of it fast to someone who is an Amigan.
I would say keep an A1200 if you have one and thats that!.......an A1200 is the best general Amiga. keep your A1 too..........sell the rest! At least you massively minimizing and still got the Best of the best.
