Hello.
As many people, my main A1200 is towerized (Ateo tower in my case).
This makes difficult to still use the PCMCIA port, unless you own a right-angled adapter.
I don't need it for networking purpose, as i already have an Ateonet board along with my Ateobus, but i lack the possibility to use the CF to PCMCIA adapter with this computer. Even with the right-angled adapter, it would not be useable as i don't wish to leave the tower open.
So i am looking for any way to have my pcmcia port directly on a front bay. Maybe some hardware hacker here has yet done this mod?

With this type of hard but it's yet too expansive... and you still need to adapt the pcmcia female to a front bay !

The situation is easiest on Pegasos (and Amigaone) : just need a pci to pcmcia adaptater (like for pcmcia wifi cards) !

Hi bigdan,
are you sure that kind of equipment is necessary? Can one not just hack a pcmcia connector, attaching the socket to a front bay pannel, and a cable to the computer's PCB?

I recall this idea was discussed a while back here. One member (can't remember who) had towerised a 1200, and connected the PCMCIA ethernet card by bending the connectors, as he didn't have a right angle bracket. Couldn't find the thread: maybe too long ago.

The link from bigdan is interesting but the ribbon seems way to short for that.
As for soldering directly on the mobo, or bending the connector, i don't want to come to such extreme ways. I always believe it is better to leave the motherboard as its creator (Commodore be praised :-D) has intended it.

This page (http://www.temcell.com/tc5943.html) also has a PCMCIA extension cable (bottom of page). No price listed, and it doesn't appear to be made for panel mounting. Not sure if it's the right sdtandard for the old PCMCIA either.
You can also buy components to make a decent extension cable for yourself through good electronics suppliers.

i have that card on the picture even two of them a great bit of hardware use it in my car computer...
as for the exstention problem if you cant find one that is long enugh try getting more than one and just patch patch patch.. they should be cheap on some china ebay seller..
or you could use a cf card in ide mounted converterand mount it in front of the tower. To mount files simply put the cf card in uae(as a hd) on the pc side of things to do transfers..

Adonay is right - you could get one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-40-pin-CF-card-IDE-Compact-Flash-Adaptor-back-panel_W0QQitemZ170000285024QQcategoryZ90719QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) which will mount on the back of your tower, and connect to the A1200's IDE interface.

Take car about the CF-IDE, it's not hot Swappable like the PCMCIA-CF !
