Title: Need help on restoring backup from 1992 (adf disks)
Post by: atron on May 09, 2006, 01:35:06 AM
Hello,

I received my Catweasel MK4 today and was able to read all my old amiga disks, dated 88-92 :-)
Unfortunately I didn't find all my source codes again, but - I found a backup. The backup consists of 27 disks, which I converted to adf format :-) It's a backup of my Amiga 2000 harddisk from 1992. I sold all the stuff in 92, hence the disks is all that is left.

My problem is: I don't know which backup program I used, but I guess it's AmiBack (the backups are in non-dos format - that's all I really know).

Do you know where to find AmiBack (or other backup programs), using WB 1.3, from 1992?

(I did search all the forums and collections, but couldn't find anything)

thanks in advance,
Atron

I stayed away from it like the plague..  one disk goes bad you're shot..your backup is gone.  I *might* have Amiback..If so I'll gladly let you have that worthless piece of software.  Send me a PM, I get real busy with work, g/f, son so I usually forget.

or it could be QuarterBackTools. once it was in the coverdisks of CU Amiga Magazine.

Thanks for your help. It worked! What a magic forum this is :-)

It was Quarterback, indeed. Thanks Magic (Admin) for your help!
When I had found some unreadable disks a couple of days ago, I only saw a very small chance of figuring out which backup program I had used 15 years ago, lol!

Now I was able to read a small backup of 3 disks without problems. This contained most of what I had been hoping to find again.

I wasn't able to read the 27 disks because, 15 years ago, I had overwritten the 27 disks backup with a 3 disks backup (the first 3 disks). But I also found some info on Quarterback that it stores a copy of the catalogue on the last disk as well (disk 27 it should be). This should allow to also look at what is on the remaing 24 (of the 27) disks. But I couldn't find a way to make Quarterback read the catalogue from the last disk (disk Nr. 27). Sigh - anyway, the 3 disks are just wonderful to browse around in this old stuff I wrote ;-)

cheers!!

If anybody also knows the trick for reading the catalogue from the last disk with quarterback, please let me know.

Thanks a lot guys :-)

QuarterBack? Or AmiBack?

no problem.  :)

it always worried me to back up stuff w/QB.  There were a few times when I backed up my A3k on 30-40 disks...then one went bad...  instead went to LHA and only backed up what I really needed.
