...just got a IDE to CF adapter and a 1GB Flash Card. I would like to run something else than Windows. I looked at Aros, and though it looks nice from the screenshots I am not sure how to install it. Anything easier? I have used Linux for many years and would like to try something new. Just need it for surfing the web and listening to music.

have you try BeOS? personaly i didn't like it but i know that a lot of people is mad about it.

Hum,
the Rebol Internet Operating System (http://www.rebol.com/ios-intro.html)
and as a token measure i`ll mention WinUAE (http://www.winuae.net/).

You can just live boot from the AROS CD (Nightly, Snapshot or try out AROS-Max ISO which is the first distro based on AROS) an see if you like it.

There's also yellotab zeta. It's not free (pretty cheap though), and I haven't tried it, but would like to one day. It is also physically possible to install MacOSX on recent x86 boxes, though not strictly legal, I think.
Apart from Aros, I'm not sure that anything will be very similar to Amiga OS. Some have said that OS2 was similar. I think it's also out of date now, though.

There are some options when running Windoze. Ever tried Black Box?
It's interesting, and VERY configurable.

@ricco32097: I'd probably stick with Linux! There's always EUAE for getting a quick Amiga fix, after all...
And be wary of using the CF card as a hard drive replacement - regardless of OS, you really don't want anything like a swap file to be placed on the card as flash-based devices only have limited write cycles.

I agree.. just use Linux... then when you want to go retro..run the ultimate classic Amiga E-UAE. The specs of my E-UAE system would have costed a small fortune back in the day.. LOL

In one of the configurations, you can use omega workbench(that's called) and gets very closer to the look and feel of the amiga.
but if you want an amiga on a pc go the Aros way :-D

The only OS that came close in my opinion, was BeOS.... BeOS is sadly pretty outdated after be inc died, so it wont be so easy to get it or the clone yellowtab zeta running properly on a modern computer.
