My copy of MacOS 8 arrived today and I was hoping to install it in ShapeShifter. I installed the included empcd.device and mounted it. When I added it as a DeviceDisk in ShapeShifter, my CD-ROM spun up and then I got an error that the disk was not a DOS disk. I ignored it, and the sector information was populated in ShapeShifter prefs. I launched the emulator, and once OS 7.5 had booted I got an error in MacOS saying that the disk had to be initialised. It's not the disk, because I successfully installed the OS under Basilisk on Windows.
What can I do?

Don't use the empcd.device, use the device your CD-ROM is mounted on with and set the device #, I have booted from MacOS 8 CD just fine before.

I think you can also just add cd0: as a mac filesystem in shapeshifter instead of a CD at all. It should work fine for installation. I know I installed MacOS 8 on my Shapeshifter, and I *THINK* this was the method I used. I had very limited luck with the empcd.device.

Ok, I'll try using the scsi device directly. The reason I didn't do this before is because the ShapeShifter manual says that in order to do this you have to install a driver for the CD-ROM drive. Failing this, I'll try Ilwrath's idea of using CD0 as a hard drive. Alternatively, if use the Mac handler to mount my Mac hardfile as an Amiga volume, can I just copy the contents of the CD in to that?

I added the CD-ROM as a SCSI device in ShapeShifter and it's working now. Thanks!
