Hi guys,
I recently bought myself a cool little A600.:horse: I've just upgraded its crappy v2 ROM (buggy r37.299)and she's now sporting a 3.1 ROM/Workbench, 3GB HD with PFS3 + 1MB chip upgrade (2MB in total). She's running great but as I've learned with my A1200, there are often ways to improve even perfection. I couldn't live without BlizKick, Fblit, SystemPatch and WBctl on my 1200...for example.
So what I'd like to know from any 68000/3.1 Gurus reading is this: are there any similar performance-type patches I should get hold of for my A600? :eureka: I just thought I'd ask you guys first before I go hunting on Aminet and hopefully save myself time installing stuff thats just useless and/or buggy. :nervous:
Any tips appretiated!

Try FastExec.

I'll definitely give that a go if/when I get a PCMCIA fastmem expansion. At the moment I only have 2mb chip tho. The doc on Aminet says it works by moving exec.library to fastmem, would there be any improvement with only chip?

*bump* so i take it there are no useful patches ? :)

Isn't PCMCIA-based RAM quite slow? You may be better off trying to track down a trapdoor-based RAM expansion.

I have a Plain A600 like you.and being that once you start to have alot of applications, and that opening Drawers to find them is too slow...............you ABSOLUTELY need Tools Daemon.....Amiga's REAL Start Menu. Makes like incredibly easier.
By the way....click on my screen name and see the images I have posted of my Tricked out Black A600 :-D

@ InTheSand
The PCMCIA slot is 16 bit. Fast memeory (if you can find it) added there will improve and boost the performance of a stock A600. Since 1200s use 32 bit fast ram, fast ram in the PCMCIA slot is slow on 1200s.

@dillinger
Can you explain a little more the essential A1200 OS system patches/hacks?
Thanks.
