Title: installing WB 3.1 WinUAE
Post by: irishmike on April 27, 2006, 10:24:40 PM
Hello all:

I am setting up WinUAE and have a fresh hard disk file and a set of WB 3.1 Images.  Having never installed WB 3.1 or any other version of WB for that matter :-)   I could use help on how I get this to work on WinUAE.  Please advise as to what the install sequence is.  Assume I am a complete newbie and have never setup an Amiga Harddisk before.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, it might be worth looking into AmiKit or AIAB - both packages for UAE that provide a pre-configured Workbench environment.

Cheers,
James

If trying to install it the Amiga way, start from the disk labeled "WB 3.1 Install". This will start the setup process and ask you to insert the disks as needed.

On a real Amiga, you'd have to use HDToolBox (boot from WB 3.1 Workbench disk and look for it in the Tools directory), or the newer HDInstTools from Aminet (hdinst.lha in disk/misc). These tools  let you set up your harddrive, create partitions... (I think you can use them on WinUAE, too, just enable "RDB mode" on your harddisk image file). However, you can use several non-RDB-mode harddisk image file for each dhx:

AmiKit doesn't support WB3.1

Following webpage contains all the info you need:

But if you never installed WB, I'd recommend to use preinstalled configuration, eg. Amiga In A Box (http://www.amigainabox.co.uk/)
