i have a 357A chinon as dfo in my 3000 place before the twist on the ribbon cable. i had a 354 chinon i used on the next section. neither one worked remove the 354 and the 357 worked removed the 357 and the 354 worked.?????
the 354 is dfo i was told to make the 357 also dfo since it is after the twist????is that right.
please give me the correct configuration for these drives i have pulled most of my hair out trying to get these drives working. thanks :-?

AFAIK the A3000 uses just the opposite drive address method than the A2000 (from where the A354 is probably coming): on the A2000 all drives are set as address '1' and A3000 ones are all set to '0' with the cable twist morphing '0' to '1' and vice versa.
So with one A3000 and one A2000 drive beyond the twist, both are running at the same address and none works.
If this is correct, the easiest way is to use a straight cable without a twist and you should be set. Otherwise you'd have to change the address on one of the drives.

Jim, How's the weather in the Newport/Hampton VA area. The correct answers, so you can keep some hair.
A2000 ---- jumper J301
Motherboard,cable,DF1 drive(set as DS1),cable with twist 4-6,DF0 (set as DS0).
xxx
----/ top and bottom right pins as DS1 (top and bottom center pins as DS0)
xxx
A3000 cabling and drives are the same. (jumper J351, jump 1-2)
A4000 cabling is correct, swap drive positions DF0 and DF1.
J351 closed or with 1.76 floppy
J351 open if DF1 is an 880 drive.
Jim, your drives should now work. Suggest DF0 as 880K. Makes no sense to "log cycle time" on a 1.76k drive in 880k mode, which is what you'd be doing most of the time.
