I bought a CyberStorm from doctorq and I have a lot of trouble getting this card to work properly.
Configuration:
A4000D with 18MB RAM and CyberStorm 68EC060 with 128MB RAM. ROM 3.1. KS 45.57, WB45.3, OS3.9 BB1 and BB2. CyberVision 64/3D and X-Surf. Picasso96 (tried CGX v3 also).
I had to install OS3.9, the BBs and Picasso96 by removing the CyberStorm and putting the A3630 back in temporarily. If I did install OS3.9 with the CyberStorm in place I got the error "cannot find workbench.library version 45.x" on loading AmiDock. Many programs wouldn't run either. So after installing everything with the 030 I swapped the accelerators. It runs fine except some programs, which is very annoying.
These prefs programs guru immediately: Screenmode, Print, Input.
HDToolbox freezes after clicking OK and the videoplayer after opening a file.
The position of the CyberVision and X-Surf is critical: in some combinations of slots the boards aren't recognized or only one of them is recognized.
Already tried different options on SetPatch, such as skipping scsi.device.
Any clue would be very much appreciated.
Edit: forgot to mention that it's a CS MkII.

question n. 20 :-)
-
@Framiga: I have seen that. But I don't get this message after installing the OS via the A3630. AmiDock runs fine with the CS. But others don't.
-
Have you got the correct 68060 library files?
You need them to make the system stable!
They are not installed by OS3.9!
-
@Flashlab: I have these installed:
68040: 46.5
68060: 46.7
Are these the latest? Older ones give harddisk-errors or the machine won't boot at all.
-
You can find the latest libs here:
http://phase5.a1k.org/
AFAIK there should be 68040.library, 68060.library and 68040new.library in your libs drawer.
-
I do have the latest then. Having the 68040new.library in LIBS: doesn't make any difference to my problems.
-
mhhh..."68EC060 embedded version without FPU and MMUs".
Are you sure thats your 060 is a full version?
-
As I said: the CS has a 68EC060 on it. No FPU, no MMU.
-
ahhh great :-(
-
No more ideas: A3630 works 100%, Cyberstorm MkII 95%?
-
The amidock problem is defenatly a lib one.
Make sure you have the 040dummy library installed as 68040.library. It's size should be a lot less than the 68060.library. AmigaOS doesnt know about a 060 library, so it reads the dummy one which then goes to read from the 060.
Also make sure that you dont install 060 versions of apps, since they expect a full 060.
I'm not on my miggy right now, but I could give you my versions and sizes when I get home.
-
I do not have the AmiDock problem any more. The problem is that some system programs like HDToolbox and Screenmode prefs do not work.
I think the dummy library and related are much older than the ones I use.
-
Does your 3630 board have an FPU on it?
-
Yep.
-
Did you install using an emergency boot floppy? Also, are you SURE that you have the libraries correctly installed/renamed? :horse: Does showconfig report the 060?
-
I was just wondering if you had any FPU optimized libraries in your libs: directory rather than the stock OS ones. Of course the 'EC060 would puke on those as well. I used to use the program PowerPacker and it needed a library to operate. When I booted up my floppy on a non-020/881 based machine - things started failing left and right. I was wondering if you might be encountering the same sort of issue. I would take all of your existing libraries aside, replace them with bog-standard OS ones (save the special '060 and '040 replacement ones) and try again.
Just my 2 cents...
-
@glitch: Thanks for your suggestions. I installed OS3.9 and BB1 and BB2 only. These are the stock libraries, aren't they?
@adolescent: WhichAmiga reports it as a 68060/68060mmu.
-
No problem. Yeah, those should be standard libraries. Have you tried booting off of a WB3.1 or 3.0 floppy to see if any of the same applications crash?

But what does showconfig show it as? If the libraries are incorrect it will show as 68040.
-
@glitch: Starting from a WB3.1 floppy these programs do not crash.
@adolescent: Showconfig also reports it as 68060/68060mmu.
